🦸🏾‍♀️ Every superhero has an origin story… this one began with confidence. 👑✨

During our Crown Confidence Workshop at Heroes Academy Summer Camp, each child was invited to imagine what their confidence looked like. They designed their own superhero, chose colors with purpose, created unique superpowers, and shared the stories behind their creations.

Through creativity and storytelling, these young heroes discovered that confidence comes from knowing who you are, embracing what makes you unique, and recognizing the power you already carry within.

A heartfelt thank you to Heroes Academy Summer Camp and The RED Bookshelf for inviting Touches of Nykesa to be part of this incredible experience. It was an honor to pour into these amazing young minds and help them celebrate their inner crowns.

One of my favorite parts of what I do is building genuine relationships with my clients. I get so excited and proud when they trust the process, follow their routines, and we get to celebrate updates like this together.

Meet Ms. Bridgett

Ms. Bridgett experiences some cognitive changes that can sometimes make remembering daily routines a little more challenging. Through creating a personalized hair care plan and a consistent routine, she has been able to continue caring for her hair even when I’m not there, and that makes me so proud of her.

This visit was after a few months of allowing her hair to rest, and seeing her progress reminded me why I love the work I do. The goal has always been to create routines that are realistic, supportive, and help my clients feel confident caring for their hair between appointments.

My background in Gerontology has truly shaped the way I serve others. My studies have helped me better understand the aging process, cognitive changes, dementia, Alzheimer’s, and the importance of patience, compassion, and preserving a person’s dignity and independence.

Hair care is so much more than styling. It can be a form of self-care, connection, confidence, and maintaining a sense of identity through every season of life.

And as you heard… Ms. Bridgett prefers coming to me and I absolutely love having her. I’m honored to be a part of her journey as we continue working together to revive and maintain her healthy hair.

The work I do isn’t just with youth. I have the privilege of serving people of all ages and genders, from confidence-building workshops with children to helping adults and older adults feel seen, valued, and confident in who they are.

Every person deserves to feel like they can wear their crown proudly and I'm here to show them they can! 👑

In this Crown Confidence Workshop participants started designing the blueprint for a very special confidence project. Every sketch, color, and idea represents a piece of who they are and who they’re becoming.

We’re keeping the final reveal a surprise for now… 🤫

When Kimberly joined the Crown Confidence Workshops at the end of January, she shared that she didn’t feel confident wearing her natural hair. She wanted to learn, but more than anything, she wanted to feel comfortable embracing her crown. Seven months later, her story looks very different.

Today, Kimberly proudly wears her natural hair with confidence. She’s learned how to care for it, style it, and continues to grow in her understanding of healthy hair and self-confidence. Her journey is proof that when education meets encouragement, lives are transformed.

This is why the Crown Confidence Workshops and Lil’ Crowns Big Confidence Storytime Experience matter.

We don’t just teach styling hair or braiding.
We cultivate confidence. We provide education. We create safe spaces where children, teens, and adults learn to embrace who they are from the inside out.
