Twenty five years ago this Saturday, January 11th, I took a deep breath, turned the key and opened the doors to Joseph Taylor Salon for the very first time. I was eager, excited, hopeful and... terrified! I had no idea that it would be the beginning of such a wonderful journey in my life. It has been so much more than “just a business” to me. It has been a labor of love... one for which I will be eternally grateful.
Over the course of these years, this “business“ has provided so much for so many of us. It’s been a meeting place for friends and family, summer jobs for some of our kids. It has given us lifelong friendships, beautiful memories and a sense of belonging for our clients, as well as for us…We have had the pleasure of enjoying great successes, as well as being fortunate enough to have overcome some seemingly insurmountable obstacles. There have been many emotional, happy and not so happy times and through it all , I have been blessed ... My staff, unwavering in their commitment and dedication, to whom I owe the majority of our success, And who I truly value as my second family. Most of whom have been by my side since our early years, as well as the new additions to our family, we were rewarded with little over a year ago, although it feels as if they been a part of us since the beginning, Gary, you and Chester are sorely missed. Hope you and Ken are loving retirement. Our clientele, who have made this all possible through their years of loyalty and support, many of you will never really know the impact you have made in our lives, and my family, my honorary staff members:
Dad, the bank runner and milkman. My kids, Nicholas ”Joseph “ and Chelsea “Taylor”: Namesakes, and My Love: Comic relief and sounding board. Barbie and Deb: My crutches... no words, God gave me you both. Deb the door remains open , there’s only one you, but so happy you’re finally living for yourself.
As I said... blessed. To be able to walk into work, see a client, say “good morning” and have them say, “Oh, my appointment isn’t till next week, just came by to have a cup of coffee and hang out for a bit”? It just doesn’t get any better than that, except for when so many of them show up to the salon, on your daughters wedding day just to bring wine and champagne and love, because they’ve watched her grow up and genuinely, sincerely want to wish her happiness. Or when life happens unexpectedly, and you’re not at work for a few weeks, and they start coming by your house, day after day, with food, soup, cards, flowers, blankets and hugs... to help you recover and get well... again... no words ❤️ Clients? employees? Business? I don’t think so. This is family. This is love. This is our blessing. My heartfelt gratitude goes out to you all for giving me the opportunity to have experienced this for the past 25 years and I look forward to the next 25 with the same excitement, hope and anticipation I felt that wonderful morning of January 11th 2000. Please come by the salon this Saturday, January 11th and have a celebratory glass of champagne with us!
