Shopping Centre Nail Salons

You ever just wander through a shopping centre, minding your business, and accidentally end up in a full-blown hand interrogation?

No booking. No warning.
Just sit down and immediately lose custody of your fingers.

Hand gets SNATCHED. No hello. No consent.
Straight into it like we’re on a deadline and my cuticles have committed a crime. Being judged in a different language, no subtitles, just straight up awkward vibes.

“Relax.”
I AM TRYING!!
Why am I getting slapped like a dodgy printer that won’t work?

My fingers are being twisted into positions that feel medically unnecessary.
Bend. Flip. Rotate. Hold.
Miss one move and it’s a quick tap like
“Oi. cooperate.”
I didn’t realise I needed a warm-up stretch before getting my nails done.

Now the filing…
Explain to me why I’m being sanded down like an antique dining table about to be resold on Marketplace.
This is not a manicure.
This is restoration work. I can smell heat.
I can hear layers of my identity being removed.

And the drill?
Sounds like we’re opening up a roadworks site in the middle of Westfield.
At this point I don’t even know what shape I asked for.
We’re just free-styling with power tools.

1,782 shades of pink.
All identical until they hit your nail and suddenly you’ve chosen something called “Aggressive Barbie Regret.”

They’re staring at you like
“Make a decision, quickly.”
So you panic point and lock it in like it’s a legally binding contract.

Now… quick question.
Are we sanitising anything?
Or are we just pretending these clippers haven’t seen 128 toenails before they’ve come near my actual hands? Because I’m seeing a lot of wiping…
Not a lot of convincing.
We’re just trusting the process and hoping for the best, are we?

Then payment. “Cash?”
“Sorry, I’ve only got card.”
The LOOK. Like I’ve personally shut down the entire nail industry.
Relax, I didn’t invent tap and go.

Then you walk out. Hands in front of you like
“What the f**k just happened?”

Shopping centre nail salons aren’t self-care.
They’re a rapid-fire identity crisis with acetone fumes.
