Join me in fixing one thing in your house. I have 1,000,000 little projects like this but I’m picking the bathtub exterior. Let get a little mood boost this week 🙂

I’m just gonna get a throw blanket and a cup of tea and look out the window and read for a bit. I’m keeping my afternoon tasks in the afternoon and taking this unexpected open morning for myself.

And it’s not a trick. The kids make me cards and pick flowers. My husband helps them bring me breakfast in bed and we are golden. Some years if the day is busy - we just reschedule Mother’s Day. No fuss.

One year, when the kids were small and I was struggling a bit - I really REALLY cared about Mother’s Day. I told my husband what I expected the next year - massage, brunch, flowers. The whole damn thing. But by the time next year rolled around we had smoothed out the wrinkles in our Household Ecosystem that were causing me to struggle. In the weeks leading up to Mother’s Day he checked in about what I wanted to do and I let him know I was back to my normal self. We had just gone out for family brunch, I had had a massage the week before. I felt seen and honored every day- so yes- a card and some flowers from the kids would be perfect. And then we can just spend the day together like a normal Sunday. Maybe the park, maybe a museum, some food trucks and an early bedtime for the kids.

Honestly. Why am I so productive this morning? It doesn’t make any sense.

Simplicity is key to a system that runs effortlessly! The fewer steps there are before a task is completed the more likely it is that task will actually be completed. For example - I am literally in bed right now in my lounge clothes because I’m super busy with my heavy flow period day and feeling lethargic. I’ve made it so simple to show up for you guys I can do it when I’m at 30% capacity.

I have read a lot of decluttering books. Some more than once. 💕 video number 1 should drop early next week

You can call it whatever you want - brain dump, todo list, priority list. All I know is there are a lot of time sensitive things I’m behind on and it feels yucky and sets my brain on fire. my friend calls them “mind layers” and the best way I know how to handle them is to actually get the things done. So I’m writing them all down so I can get them cleared and move on with my weekend.

When I was first attempting to keep our home usable, I’d create complicated chore charts and organizing systems. We did laundry every day and went shopping on Fridays to batch cook on Saturdays. The problem was the system was fragile. And once I had a chronic illness flare up or something happened one weekend the house would end up a disaster again almost immediately. The system needed to be robust - to be able to support us verses us supporting it. It turns out you can run a household instead of building a house of cards waiting to fall. The secret is in simplifying.
