I Am Remembering My Dad, Robert Matthew Arnold Langevine
In loving memory — 05/02/1922 – 04/21/2011 (adjust if needed)
I am remembering my dad today—
Not only as a pastor,
But as my father.
I am remembering his prayers,
His voice,
His strength,
And the quiet ways he showed his love to us.
I am remembering a man who served God faithfully,
Who carried the Word to Den Amstel W.C.D. regularly,
Who led with conviction,
And whose life left an imprint on mine.
I am remembering the father
Who helped shape my faith,
And the pastor
Whose prayers still echo in my spirit and in my life.
Though I miss him deeply,
I give thanks for his life,
His legacy,
And the love he left behind.
Today, I am not only remembering his passing—
I am remembering his life.
And I honor him with love.
Forever remembered.
Forever cherished.
Forever my dad.
PART I: Wisdom at Sixty
On my 60th eve, I am sharing the best of me:
I have learned over time that some influences enter softly.
I have happily accepted responsibilities that appeared to be opportunities to be a good steward.
I have remained in relationships and situations that drained me before I recognized what they were actually taking from me.
I now know that discernment is protection.
I now know that even though people have access to me, it does not mean I am assigned to solve their crisis.
I now know that even though an opportunity appears good, it does not mean I should pursue it.
We are ALL called to serve — but not to be depleted.
We are ALL called to love — but not without wisdom.
We are ALL called to help — but not at the cost of our spiritual peace.
“Guard your heart above all else, for it is the wellspring of life.”
— Proverbs 4:23
