Knowing the ABCDEs of melanoma could save your life. It’s easy to perform a skin check on yourself if you know what to look for. The next time you have a minute, do a thorough check of your moles and be mindful of the following info from

Asymmetry: Most melanomas are asymmetrical. Imagine a line down the middle of the lesion, the two halves will not match.

Border: Melanoma borders tend to be uneven. They might appear to have scalloped or notched edges.

Color: Multiple colors are a warning sign. Melanoma may have different shades of brown, tan or black. As it grows, the colors red, white or blue may also appear.

Diameter or Dark: It’s a warning sign if a lesion is the size of a pencil eraser (about 6 mm, or ¼ inch in diameter) or larger. If a single lesion is darker than the others, even if it’s small, that might be a warning sign as well.

Evolving: Any change in size, shape, color or elevation of a spot on your skin, or any new symptom such as bleeding, itching or crusting, may be a warning sign of melanoma.

Wands should never have to be “broken in” before they are used. Always test new wands on the inside of your forearm before applying them to a client to ensure there is nothing wrong with them.

If you test a wand out on the inside of your forearm and it leaves scratches behind, return it for an evaluation. Do not attempt to file any portion of it down, this will likely make the issue worse.
