We had sincerely hoped to reopen our doors on Monday, April 27, 2020. However, to exercise an abundance of caution for the health and well-being of our school community and to comply with the Governor’s mandates, we will be extending our closure. At this time, we plan to reopen on Monday, May 18, 2020. We will continue to monitor the situation closely.

Please continue to check this voicemail as well as our website, www.chrysm.edu for updates to closing status. Changes in upcoming class start dates are located in the “Class Schedule” section of the Admissions tab of the website, www.chrysm.edu. Should you have specific questions, please contact [email protected] and we will respond to you as best as we can during the closure.

We strongly urge everyone to comply with social distancing and hygienic requirements as much as possible. The more seriously we adhere to the recommendations and mandates of the Governor and the Center for Disease Control (CDC), the earlier our society will be able to open back up. We eagerly await the day we can see you all in person again. Hopefully, that day is sooner than we think.

Message from the Director

Please click the link below to watch a video message from the Director of Education, Christine Werne:
https://youtu.be/DWPpv0KZ44I

Good afternoon,

I’m Christine Werne. I am the owner and the director of education for the Chrysm Institute of Esthetics. I hope this finds all of our students, staff and everyone’s families safe and well. I wanted to take this time to reach out to all of our students and staff and give you a quick update. Please know that we have been and continue to work diligently on the behalf of all our students and staff to mitigate this unprecedented pandemic. Of course it is our hope to get back to school as normal as soon as possible.

That being said I want to tell you a little bit about what’s been going on behind the scenes in this last week. Because we are a clock hour school as opposed to most universities who are credit hour, the rules and regulations are different for us than they are for everyone else. We answer to a lot of regulatory bodies; the United States Department of Education, the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia, the Department of Professional Occupational Regulation Board of Cosmetology, the National Accrediting Commission for Career Arts and Sciences, the US Department of Veterans Affairs, and the VA State Approving Agency. Needless to say, each and everyone of them have their own rules and regulations.

We’ve been attempting to work on a number of different options to try to help as much as we can to have as little interruption in your education as possible. We began working a week ago on trying to add some online classes. We are working diligently on applications and approval from all of our different regulatory bodies. We’re getting close on that.

It seems like every time we thought we had one agency on board, there was another stipulation that we had to deal with. My first thought was to provide a half-day of online class (theory and demo). However our accreditor came back and said we are required to provide a full day of instruction, so that students still complete their contracted hours per week. I don’t think anyone wants to sit in front of a computer for six hours at a time so perhaps we break it up into two hour sessions.

We were also working on breaking the classes into groups of 10 per room,6 feet apart - While we were working that schedule out, the governor released a statement indicating that was unacceptable, that no more than 10 people be permitted in our entire facility at one time.

The long and the short of it is I want you to know how much we are doing every day to figure this out and to try to get you back into aesthetics education as quickly as we possibly can. Furthermore , know that we are going to do everything we can to accommodate such as waiving max time fame payments for students affected by the closure for COVID-19 and additionally we plan to add makeup hours - tentatively scheduled for Friday’s, Nights, weekends to allow you to finish faster and make up for lost time.

Unfortunately, as you all know, things are changing day by day in a way that we cannot anticipate one way or another. I will continue to update you as anything changes. At this time our goal is to begin offering online distance education on the 30th if we’re not able to resume business as usual at that time however we hope to be back in the building as soon as possible. Your instructors will be reaching out to each of you and will provide more details in the coming days.

Please know that we all look forward to you completing your education and giving us the opportunity to welcome you as an esthetician in our field.

Wishing you and your family safe and well. See you soon

Good afternoon students,

We hope that you and your families are doing well in this time of uncertainty. As we continue to monitor the statewide closures and developing recommendations from the governor , it is still our hope to return to normal classes on Monday March 30, 2020. If this continues to be our course of action, we will hold classes over our regular scheduled Spring Break to make up time. We are also considering holding some future Friday classes to make up lost hours and reduce the number of contract changes for students.

In the event that The Chrysm Institute must extend closure beyond March 30, our staff is working tirelessly on the ability to offer online theory education. We ask that you be patient with us as we work through the difficult approval processes of our many regulatory bodies.

We realize that this is a stressful time and we want you to know that we are committed to minimizing the effects of COVID-19 to our esthetics community. Please continue to check your student email and/or the school voicemail at 757-456-5386 for updates. If you have questions or concerns please email [email protected].

Special Invitation to Esthetics Social Discussing Upcoming Regulatory Changes

Good afternoon graduates and licensed Estheticians,

You’re invited! We’d like you to join us for a mixer (light beer and wine, light hors d’oeuvres) to discuss the regulatory future of Esthetics. We have the chance to change some laws for Estheticians in the state of Virginia next year.

Come be a part of the conversation, network, be a voice and hopefully a participant for what you’d like to see the future of Esthetics be in Virginia.

Due to the nature of this event, this invitation is for licensed Estheticians and licensed Master Estheticians. We are working with our currently enrolled students during their scheduled class times. This invitation is for Estheticians not currently enrolled at The Chrysm Institute of Esthetics so that we can share this information and invite you to be a part of the future.

It will be held in the Pembroke 4 first floor conference room at 7:00 PM on Friday, November 9, 2018. Please RSVP by calling 757-456-5386 or emailing [email protected] no later than 5:00 PM, Wednesday, November 7, 2018.
