De Lune is a menstrual health company on mission to lift the period burden by setting a new standard

After spending her formative years battling debilitating menstrual pain, founder Mimi Millard felt the frustration of being held back by her period. Her fruitless search for natural solutions eventually culminated in an adverse reaction to a popular painkiller, landing her in the hospital. Jolted and more motivated than ever to find a safe alternative for everyone, Mimi joined forces with Register

(TW: Su***de) Let’s talk about it. 53% of su***de happens within the 8 days surrounding menstruation. With low moods, irritability, fatigue and anxiety running rampant, it’s not hard to see why. While we know that 1) mood and menstruation are correlated and 2) suicidal ideation and planning is more prevalent during the luteal phase, researchers haven’t yet established why exactly that is.

When Hannah, a De Lune user, found out that her chronic migraines with aura meant she couldn’t take any estrogen-based hormonal birth control, she struggled to find a good alternative. While she tried progestin-only pills and considered a copper IUD, nothing felt like the right fit for her body.

Hannah chose to transition to non-hormonal birth control and found success with Phexxi. Later, she started using FAM (Fertility Awareness Method) and tracking her cervical mucus and basal body temperature.

If you relate to Hannah’s story, you aren’t alone. It can be anxiety-inducing to find out that hormonal birth control isn’t a good option for you. The good news is that there’s tons of other options, and we explore 18 of them in our “Birth Control Options” post. Check it out and chat with your doc if you feel like switching it up might be the right call!

And if you started hormonal birth control as a way to suppress bad period symptoms, finding out you need to quit it can be anxiety-inducing. De Lune is here to support your transition off of hormonal birth control if needed— our Steady Mood formula minimizes side effects like acne, worsened PMS, and nutritional deficiencies. You can try Steady Mood for 20% off with the code IG20.
