From my friend this morning who is not on Instagram….

I just picked up an 80 year-old man who was walking with a cane and had dropped two bags of groceries. I never pick people up with (“her son”) in the car.

I had no choice.

I found out he walks 3 miles each way to buy groceries every week. He came here is a refugee from Croatia in 1999. His English was very rough.

He was so out of breath. It took the entire car ride before he wasn't hyperventilating. I can't believe no one in his apartment complex will give him a ride.

I gave him my phone number and told him if he calls me Wednesday night we could set up for me to pick him up and take him to and from the store every Thursday morning.

She ended with this. “How fu***ng sad.”

I say, it is sad. Very sad. I also say, my dear friend, that you are angel on this earth and that the world needs more people like you. Everyone has something going on no matter what it looks like on the outside. In this case his outside was displaying a need, a desperation. And you acted. You didn’t look the other way because to stop might have been inconvenient. And your son got to see his mom display humanity at its best.
