Humane Society of Elmore County News – 13 Sep ‘26

This coming Sunday, 20 September, starting at noon until 4 pm, is our 20th Annual Bark in the Park at Fort Toulouse in Wetumpka! We were certainly hoping for cooler weather but mamma nature may not be cooperating on that front. But we will set everyone up under the trees and in the shade as much as possible and sure hope everyone will come out to help us celebrate fun in the park with all the dogs we love.

We have 25 Vendors joining in, will have grilled burgers & hot dogs for sale as well as yummy drink and Gelato refreshments. Donations of canned sodas this week would be greatly appreciated – can drop by the Shelter Mon-Sat 8-4 and we thank you. We will be bringing about a dozen wonderful pups looking for their forever homes and our staff will be manning the always popular Pet Picasso Painting table PLUS face painting for children!

From 1:00 – 3:00 and for only $25 (which includes the registration) you can get your pet microchipped thanks to the Tuskegee College of Veterinary Medicine and Dr. Dorsey will also be happy to answer questions at ASK the VET.

At 1:45 we will start with the Blessing of the Pets and then will get started on the always popular Pup & Float Parade and Pet Contests. Pet floats are new this year and looking forward to seeing what everyone comes up with. We are talking small floats like Red Rider/Radio Flyer Wagon types or doggy strollers or whatever else strikes your imagination to show off your pet. There will be great Pet Contest prizes for the following categories: Largest Dog, Smallest Dog, Best Pet Costume, Owner-Pet Look-a-Like, Judges Choice and Best Float.

Under the Pavilion we will be selling tickets ($1/ticket or $5/6 tickets) for our SEVEN fantastic and huge Baskets: Dog Basket, Cat Basket, W**e Basket (must be 21 to purchase ticket), Coffee Basket, Thrift Store Basket, AL Football Basket and AU Football Basket. This year those baskets will be on preview at our Thrift Store the week ahead of Bark in the Park AND you can purchase tickets there as well. We will draw all the winning tickets at 3:30 at Bark in the Park but don’t worry - new this year is that you do NOT have to be present to win as winners can also pick up their basket at the Thrift Store the following week.

Our 2026 Bark in the Park T-Shirt ($20) will be available at the Pavilion and we are grateful to have so many repeat sponsors and some additional ones this year as well.

We were informed that the restroom building at Ft. Toulouse is out of commission, but they will have four Porta-Potties ready and available for our crowd.

Admission to Bark in the Park is $5/person 13 years old and older. ALL dogs coming to Bark in the Park must be good in public, meaning good around children, adults and other dogs in a very busy situation, AND they must have a current rabies tag/proof of rabies vaccination to come to the Park.

While we sure hope not, we do have Sunday, 27 September as a rain date.

We have been asked quite a few times about the fragrances that we offer. Long story short, we offer numerous fragrances in each product, and those fragrances can and do change over time. We are constantly adding new fragrances, especially during the changing of the seasons such as Autumn and Winter. We also phase out some fragrances that don't sell as well as originally hoped. Point being, our fragrances do periodically change, and we offer so many that it can become difficult to answer posts that ask what fragrances we offer.

We pride ourselves on offering a wide range of fragrances in all of our products because we hope that by doing so, everyone can find a fragrance that they love.

Attached below are some photos listing what fragrances we currently have available in our workshop in all the products that we offer. Again, these can change over time.

We are also happy to do custom orders, so if you see a fragrance you like but it isn't offered in a certain product, we can make that for you!

If you see a fragrance name that catches your attention, but you don't know what it smells like, drop us a comment below and we will respond with the fragrance notes found in that fragrance to give you a better idea of what it may smell like. You can also come shop our workshop in person and give our products the sniff test!

Please let us know if you have any questions!

Hello, my name is Courtney Eldridge, and I am the owner of River Region Aromas. I wanted to introduce myself, so you know who you are supporting when you shop with this small business!

For starters, I am originally from Gadsden, Alabama, but moved to Wetumpka back in 2002 and have been here since. I am married to my high school sweetheart, DJ Eldridge, and we have been together almost 16 years! We are currently expecting our first child together, a son, after years of fertility struggles. Our son is due this December and we are so excited! We are also fur-parents; We have a dog named Dakota and a cat named Bubba. I am a Sergeant, Firefighter, and EMT at Santuck Fire Department. Me and my husband have been members of the FD for over 10 years, and we absolutely love giving back to our community!

What is now River Region Aromas actually started out as my father’s business. He started “River Region Candles” back in 2023 where he made wax melts, candles, room sprays, car diffusers, and sachet freshies as a hobby and turned it into a business. In 2024, I assumed a marketing role on the business page and eventually took over the whole business as my father moved on to other endeavors. Thus, River Region Aromas was born! I continued making the original products my father started and slowly began to expand into the other amazing products that you see in the product line-up today!

I expanded again in 2025 to include a bath and body care line. My aunt, who owns her own business known as TCH Designs, decided she wanted to focus on her DTF business, so she turned over her bath and body care line to me. It just makes sense to add body care to my business of making all things that smell divine, right? So, I took the products she made and expanded it to include many of the bath and body care products you see from River Region Aromas today!

Funny enough, I have always had an interest in being crafty and making things like wax melts and soaps but never imagined I would own a business where I got to make things I love and share them with all of you! I truly love the process of formulating, creating, and testing all these products before they reach the shelves for others to purchase! Perks of owning your own “smell good” business is that you get to use products you trust to make your home smell incredible!

Supporting River Region Aromas is not like supporting a large corporation who mass produces. I pride myself in hand-crafting the products you see from high-quality ingredients where quality matters over quantity. When shopping at River Region Aromas, you are supporting products that have been quality tested and perform beautifully each time. I am incredibly grateful for each and every supporter that I have! I truly enjoy meeting and interacting with each of you throughout this journey. You give me the strength and courage to continue to do what I do by allowing my business the chance to flourish and my dream the opportunity to become a reality!!

Now that you know a little about me and my business, tell me, what product and/or fragrance is your favorite? I would love to hear from you!

P.S. Keep an eye out for local events I will be set up at! I would love to meet you!
