✨ GLP-1 Hair Loss? Don’t Be Afraid to Still Get Your Hair Done. ✨

One concern I’ve been hearing more and more from clients on GLP-1 medications is, “I’m losing hair, so I’m scared to color or cut it.”

First, take a deep breath. ❤️

Hair shedding while losing weight is actually pretty common, whether the weight loss comes from GLP-1s, bariatric surgery, illness, or even extreme dieting. In many cases, the shedding isn’t caused by the medication itself, it’s often your body’s response to rapid weight loss, changes in nutrition, or the physical stress of losing weight. The good news? For most people, it’s temporary.

As a hairstylist, I don’t look at that and think, “We can’t do your hair.” I think, “How can we work with what your hair needs today?”

When you come to see me, I’ll take the time to evaluate your hair and scalp before we begin. If you’re experiencing shedding or your hair feels more fragile than usual, I’ll tailor the appointment accordingly. That may mean using gentler techniques, minimizing unnecessary tension, recommending strengthening products, or making small adjustments to protect the integrity of your hair.

Getting your hair colored doesn’t automatically mean you’ll lose more hair. In fact, many clients leave feeling better because a fresh color, gloss, toner, or haircut can make the hair they have look fuller, healthier, and more vibrant. Sometimes the confidence boost is exactly what someone needs while they’re going through changes.

A few things I encourage if you’re on a GLP-1:
✔️ Prioritize protein every day.
✔️ Stay hydrated.
✔️ Make sure you’re getting enough vitamins and minerals as recommended by your healthcare provider.
✔️ Be patient—hair grows in cycles, and recovery takes time.

Most importantly, please don’t avoid the salon because you’re worried I’ll judge your hair or tell you I can’t do it. My job is to help you feel your best while protecting the health of your hair. We’re a team, and we’ll create a plan that works for you.
