Today, I examined a 58-year-old patient with diabetes who is on insulin therapy. He had no complaints about his eyes and mentioned that he hadn’t seen a doctor in a long time. Before his visit, he had a blood test for HbA1C, the results of which we received by the end of the examination.

For all diabetic patients, we dilate the pupils for a detailed examination of the retina, as the eye is a target organ in diabetes. During the retinal examination of both eyes, I observed multiple early-stage changes typical of diabetic retinopathy. We documented the condition of the retinas with OCT imaging. Organic changes were already visible around the central part (Fovea) of the retina, but they do not require treatment at this moment. Towards the end of the consultation, we received his HbA1C result, which was over 13 – more than twice the safe level.

I referred the patient to an endocrinologist and recommended a follow-up examination in three months. If you or your loved ones have diabetes, remember that the eye is a target organ in this disease. Often, we can detect signs of diabetes decompensation before any changes in vision occur. Therefore, it is recommended that all diabetic patients have their retinas examined at least twice a year.

Regular check-ups can prevent serious complications. Stay vigilant about your eye health!

While temporarily working in Hanoi, I've encountered a small inconvenience with the medical documentation, which has hindered me from sharing the results of my surgeries here. However, today, I've decided to share a special moment with all of you. Yesterday, we performed a ReLEX SMILE laser correction for one of our patients. She had low vision and struggled with -8 diopters in her glasses. But this morning, she happily shares that her vision has become excellent, and she no longer needs glasses! The surgery on both eyes took less than 10 minutes, and the outcome surpassed all expectations. Seeing my patients happy is truly my inspiration! 🌟💙

Операция на обоих глазах заняла менее 10 минут, и результат превзошел все ожидания. Радость пациентов - мое вдохновение! 🌟💙

Continuing from yesterday's post. The speed of performing the surgery is, of course, important for the comfort of the patient, but the most crucial aspect is the final outcome, which usually becomes evident on the very next day, and in rare cases, vision can be fully restored within a week after SMILE. Today, I saw 10 out of 16 patients from yesterday and happily recorded their results in my records. I am delighted that they have achieved excellent results and are now thrilled to see the world in a whole new way, without the need for glasses! 🌟✨

Скорость выполнения операции, конечно, важна для комфорта пациента, но самое главное - это итоговый результат, который обычно становится явным уже на следующий день, в редких случаях зрение восстанавливается в течение недели после SMILE. Сегодня я увидел 10 из 16 вчерашних пациентов и с удовольствием внес их результаты в свою таблицу. Я рад тому, что они получили отличные результаты и сейчас счастливы видеть этот мир совершенно по-новому, без необходимости носить очки!

Today a great event happened at the clinic! We were given a new toy from Zeiss: the Visumax 800. In the first half of the day, we talked with Zeiss representatives about the laser, the differences compared to the previous Visumax 500. Before this meeting, I thought that the new Visumax was more of a restyling. In fact, this is a completely different device with different control and expanded capabilities. After lunch, we worked directly with the laser. The similarity with the old one is that the calculation of operations is little different from the previous generation and that nothing new has been added in the extraction of the lenticule. The main difference is the speed of the procedure! Lenticule formation takes 9 seconds instead of 23 in the previous generation, and the procedure is now called SMILE pro. It's amazing! It looks like a fast-forward in real life! From a practical point of view, this is a very important moment because the chance of eye movement during laser work is significantly reduced! The process control is different. It is now possible to control the microscope and the patient's bed using foot controls, which is very convenient! You can create a profile for each surgeon with their individual settings (which we did right away with Vitaliy). Well, and much more! In general, we are satisfied and ready to delight our patients with quality vision without glasses now with the SMILE pro method (there are contraindications).
