reached out because she needed to get her curls on the right track. I was able to help her with as much info as possible to get her curls to feel better. She decided to make the trip from Atlanta for a haircut because she wanted her curls to thrive. Besides giving my clients the best possible cut I can within my ability, it’s also my desire to send them home with as much knowledge as possible so they can maintain their hair on their own. I’m grateful for every single person that trusts me with their hair. Special gratitude goes out to anyone willing to drive or fly across the country or from other countries to have me do their hair. Find a job that brings you joy and you’ll never complain about going to work. @ Capella Salon

This pandemic has changed the hair industry so much. Hairdressers had to get creative in order for us to work during hair prohibition. I had the pleasure of working with recently. I’m so used to working in a busy salon with people all around he, it was actually refreshing being outside without the salon buzz. We took these photos right after the cut without washing or styling the hair. Since I cut one curl at a time, it adds so much more volume and definition without tangles. If the shape is right, it will look perfect after the cut. Thank you for driving all the way here from Texas and trusting me with your curls. @ The Curl Doctor

I had the pleasure of working with recently. She wanted a new look with fringe after she covered her old highlights. I gave her a few random pieces all over to create this fun shape with so much movement and bounce. The fringe works great with her volume. Hair grows so don’t be afraid to try new looks. @ The Curl Doctor

Today marks my 26 year anniversary of doing hair. I never dreamed that a pandemic would happen in my lifetime and I would be forced to close my salon for so long. I learned a very valuable lesson to PIVOT & THRIVE and I’m making the best of it. I’m grateful for my wonderful clients who have invited me to their gardens where I can do what I love. I met this lovely old oak tree and I couldn’t resist embracing it. I hope you find a career that brings you this much joy.

Let’s talk about detangling and why it’s so important. Everyone sheds hair. It’s how our bodies generate new growth. But what about the hair that sheds? They say a person will lose about a 100 strands of hair daily. Curly hair doesn’t just slide off the head like straight hair. Where does it go? It stays in your hair and wraps itself around the hair that is still attached.
Finger detangling is the safest way because your fingers unlike a hard bristle of a comb or a brush will feel that tangle and be able to detangle it without ripping it by brushing or combing thru it. The best way to detangle is in the shower with conditioner. Leave your conditioner on for as long as you can while you shower to allow the steam to help the conditioner do its job. Once it’s been on your head for a few minutes it will be so much easier to detangle. If you feel your hair is tangled before you wash it, you can try and separate them gently with your fingers but don’t brush dry curls. That could create so much breakage and lead you to lose length.
Your ends are your oldest hair. They’ve been there the longest. Just like an old sweater or car tires, eventually with time you will see some fraying or loss of tire mass. It’s a natural occurrence and it can’t be stopped but it can be helped by being gentle on your ends.
This is why regular trims are so important to keep your ends as blunt as possible. When your ends are split they will get caught on each other and because it’s the weakest hair you’ll end up with breakage.
It’s so important to follow these simple steps to avoid having tangles you can’t unravel. If you have children, please don’t let their hair get tangled and matted because sometimes it can’t be removed unless it’s cut and it could be traumatizing. Teaching kids and teens these simple tips will allow them to enjoy their natural curls.
Part of the service is also educating our clients because they will be the ones caring for their hair. I’m always grateful for parents that go the extra mile to make sure their kids’ hair is in the best possible condition.
Any questions? @ Capella Salon

A few years ago thus eccentric man reached out to me asking me if I can help him surprise his girlfriend for a cut because he’s flying her here from Houston. As soon he walked in wearing his grill I knew I met a dope person. He told me he’s a rapper and wanted to write a song for me. Well he did and we decided to make a music video. I didn’t select to have so many curly girls wanting to be a part of this wonderful art project. I was overwhelmed with the emails and was only able to respond to 125 emails. We s**t it in one day with the love and support from so many people.
Proud how it turned out and I hope you enjoy this short video.

Police racial profiling an innocent civilian at a peaceful protest to later finding out they wrongfully arrested the wrong person. I love how he takes their ID’s at the end and sends them away.
And they wonder why people are protesting.

This is dedicated to every single person that is planning on having their hair done or will be going back to work as a hairdresser.
Our industry has been challenged and I’m sofa king proud to see how we are handling this issue.

Please be patient. We’re all in this together. We will need to work with each other and find ways to be a bit more flexible to make sure we can continue living our lives safely.

I had a hard time at first. I refused to go back to work until I did all my research to understand how this virus spreads and if I can even go back to doing hair safely. That thought crossed my mind. I had to think long and hard if it’s even possible to do hair again. I realized I missed the creative outlet and the feeling I get when I know I made someone happy. I couldn’t see myself doing anything else and I was determined to find a way to do it safely.

Luckily it’s not as contagious as fleas or lice as long as we’re both wearing our masks and our hands are properly disinfected prior to sitting down in my chair. I will also have to take more time in between each appointment to disinfect my work space. I’m actually looking forward to giving each client a brand new space. It’s not a bad thing at all to wipe down the entire area every time. I’ll be using my Mr. Miyagi bonsai skills of wax on and wax off. Watch me!

I’m so excited to do hair again. Now that I know I can do it safely, I’m feeling really good about the opportunity to do what I love. My shears are sharp. My tools are disinfected. My back misses having pain and I miss being tired. Is it June 2nd yet?

Quarantine Hair Survival Tips.

It is so much easier to have healthy curls if you can simplify your routine. When you invest in curl friendly products, spend the majority of your budget on products that will help the condition of your hair. Those are your conditioners & shampoos.
Everyone always admires kids hair. One of the reasons their hair is thriving is because they don’t mess with it as much. They detangle, shake and go. It allows the curls to form their natural coil and that alone will help their condition.
If you have questions about caring for your own hair during or after the quarantine, feel free to reach out to me via email or DM. I’m also available to do online consultations via zoom.
