You probably won’t ever feel completely ready. You just have to jump out of your comfort and go for it.
If I had waiting until I was “ready” to start teaching or working out at home and coaching, I never would have started and I wouldn’t be where I am today.
What’s something that you’ve been waiting until you’re “ready” to start?

First time we’ve all been together since probably Christmas 2019 and now 100% of us are fully vaccinated 🙌🏼🙌🏼
So nice being able to see my whole family again this weekend.
Happy Mother’s Day !! Thanks for getting us all together to celebrate! We love you!! 😘

TEACHERS:
Take your weekend and DON’T WORK!
We all need time to unwind and not be teachers- so don’t bring your work home. Leave it at work. It can wait until Monday.
Take your weekends and just be you! Do things for yourself that don’t involve teaching. You’ll be a better teacher on Monday if you allow yourself if relax and recharge for the two days a week we get off.

Got my first haircut in almost a year last night and I am OBSESSED! (Swipe to see the before!)
I still love , but since we moved, I needed to find a new place to get my hair cut, and decided I might as well try out a place that specializes in curly hair!
I went to and saw and I honestly did not know my hair could look like this 😂 I’m on day two hair today and it looks (mostly) just as good!!
So glad I finally learned to embrace my curls and stop using heat on my hair so it could live up to it’s full potential! 😍

I used to be the teacher with no boundaries. Like said in the original post- I used to judge the teachers who HAD boundaries.
I thought in order to be “good” at my job, that’s what I needed to do.
I would take work home, answer emails and messages from parents in the evenings and on the weekends, and then at some point, I just decided that enough was enough.
I started leaving my work laptop at work. I stopped bringing home things to laminate and cut out. I turned off all my work notifications after 4pm and before 8am.
As a teacher, it’s hard enough to “forget about the job” once your home, so the least we can do is not physically work once we leave the classroom.
Now, the only time that I work outside my contract hours is when I absolutely have to- for a training, or to finish up the last piece of an IEP, and it’s only every once in a while.
Set your boundaries, teachers. And don’t feel bad about them when you do.

At the end of every school year, when we’re done learning about a letter each week, we learn about community helpers. This week, we are learning about firefighters, and it’s just not the same as it used to be.
Because of covid, we aren’t allowed to have visitors in the classroom like we used to. I used to have a community helper come into the classroom at the end of the year as we learned about them. We’d have visits from firefighters, police officers, and EMTs as we learned about them all at the end of the year, AND towards the beginning of the year as we learned about the letter each helper starts with.
I think it is SO important for our kiddos to become comfortable around first responders just in case they are ever in a situation in which they will need their help. Being in an emergency is scary for anyone, but for kids (especially kids with special educational needs), it can be especially scary.
I want all my students to have a positive interaction with first responders as often as possible so that they can maybe be a little less scared if they’re in a situation in which they need help.
I wish this was a photo of this year. But until I can get visitors back into the classroom, I’ll do my best to prepare my kids for anything. 🤷🏼♀️

While it’s definitely normal to reach for more comfort food sometimes, I thought I’d share some other ways that help me cope with emotional times 😁(▶️ Swipe to see some of my alternative solutions)
Don’t get me wrong, I love my sweets and dessert 😋 While balance looks different for everyone, I’ve definitely found that adding in some of these healthy habits overtime keeps me grounded during stressful events.
Things like exercise, gratitude journaling, dancing, calling friends, reading and even spending some time off social media have really helped to minimize my anxiety & stress over time.
It’s also a good idea to check in with yourself when reaching for the fridge or pantry cupboard and ask yourself if you’re actually hungry or if it could be some of these other emotions. Additionally, giving yourself some self care time, especially in the morning, could mean the world of difference to your day even if it’s just for 15 minutes.
So, I hope you find some time for you in between the chaos & know you definitely deserve to feel your best 😘 and if you just want some damn dessert, go for it 💯😁

This is true in every aspect of life:
•New teachers shouldn’t be comparing themselves to veteran teachers.
•Someone who is new to working out should be comparing themselves to a fitness ju**ie.
•First time moms shouldn’t be comparing themselves to a mom of 4.
Just don’t compare yourself. Ever. For anything.
You are your own person. You will be different than EVERY SINGLE OTHER PERSON you come into contact with in some way shape or form.
If you’re going to compare, compare yourself to the person you were yesterday and make adjustments (or not) as needed.

A few years ago, I had a sudden realization that I can (and should!) be delegating morning circle to my assistants in my special education classroom.
Here’s why:
-Our morning circle routine is always the same. It’s predictable, the students know what to expect, so if the person leading it is different, that’s the ONLY thing changing for them.
-It gives me time to do other things. Like I said yesterday, special education teachers have SO MUCH PAPERWORK. And we typically do not get extra contract time to do it. Having 20 extra minutes in the morning where no one needs me (unless I need to help with behavior management) gives me the chance to get some paperwork done and know my class will be in a good place.
-Having your paras get comfortable leading circle time while you’re there allows them to become comfortable leading that and maybe even other activities when you’re gone.
-When you have guests come into your classroom, the circle time area becomes a space that everyone can go to attend to the guest and still have it be somewhat familiar because they aren’t used to you always being the one who is leading activities in that area.
Did it take a few extra minutes each day for a little bit to make sure they were doing it right? Sure 🤷🏼♀️
I had to remind them about things that were forgotten or make suggestions on what could have gone better, but once they get the hang of it, it’s 100% worth it.
Teachers (especially SpEd teachers) need to take care of themselves. And if that means delegating some of the daily tasks and responsibilities, I say GO FOR IT!
