Superhero Day! How fun!

Real or Fake, who are your heroes? Who did you love growing up (and probably still love)? Who do you love today?

National Superhero Day was founded by Marvel Comics in 1995.

This is a day to celebrate your favourite heroes. No matter if your heroes are fictional or real, this is the day to be thankful for them.

Did you know the first superhero ever was created in 1936. The superhero was named Phantom, and he started with his own comic strip in a U.S. newspaper. This was the first known beginnings of a published superhero, and now there are hundreds of well-known heroes that everyone loves.

As for the real-life superheroes, this day also recognizes the heroes that wear masks, capes, scrubs, or uniforms, everyone has someone they think of as a superhero.

Let's give those well-deserved superheroes a shout out for whatever hard work they do.

It's Earth Day! What are you doing for our planet today?

Earth Day has been celebrated by billions of people around the globe for the past 50 years.

On April 22, we join together to bring awareness to the health of our environment.

While we should adapt to a more environmentally friendly way of living every day, not just on April 22 every year, this is a day to bring awareness.

Everyday is Earth Day at The Body Shop! We always keep people, animals and the planet in mind. You will see so much about the great things The Body Shop does for our planet, the people of the world, and its reflected in the ingredients and products.

April 10th is Hug your Dog Day!

What a great day this is! Hug your dogs today (and everyday but extra today)

Friendly reminder:

It's time to change the clock for daylight savings. That means we “spring forward” by moving our clocks ahead one hour. The easiest thing to do is change it tonight before going to bed.

Tip: I find clock changes are a good reminder to change smoke detector batteries, alarm batteries, do a safety walk around your home and have a routine that ties to time change.

Also, clock changes affect our energy, mood and focus. Try to stay consistent with bed times, eating habits and be mindful of your energy and focus and take time to centre yourself if you need. A great way to do that is to sit in silence for 10 minutes. ❤

Being kind is contagious.

Pay from someones coffee that is behind you in drive thru, hold the door open for someone, say please and thank you, tell someone they look beautiful, compliment someone, tell someone they are doing a good job. Everyone needs kindness in their life.

Always be kind.

2019

PLASTICS FOR CHANGE

In 2019 The Body Shop partnered with Plastics for Change to forge a new Community Fair Trade partnership, purchasing recycled plastic from Bengaluru, India. Plastics for Change work with ‘waste pickers’ in India who are often ‘dalits’ – the lowest members of India’s caste system, and vulnerable to discrimination and poor working conditions. They’ve helped women like Annamma, who was a waste picker since she was a child and now manages a Dry Waste Collection Centre, employing a number of people and supporting her daughter through a plastic engineering course.

The Body Shop wants to find a use for the plastic that already exists in the world. By using Community Fair Trade recycled plastic from India, where almost a third of waste goes uncollected, fighting for people and the planet by supporting plastic ‘waste pickers’ with access to more sanitary working conditions, a fair price and the respect and recognition they deserve.

2019

BLOODY GOOD PERIOD PARTNERSHIP

Period products should not be a luxury, but many people who have periods aren’t able to afford them. In 2019 the Body Shop teamed up with Bloody Good Period, a charitable project that provides menstrual supplies to asylum seekers, refugees and those living in poverty. Gabby Edlin founded Bloody Good Period when she realised that food banks and drop-in centres weren’t supplying enough period products to people who needed them, or couldn’t supply any at all. The Body Shop used thousands of stores and The Body Shop at Home™ network to collect period products for those in need, donating them to local organizations like refuges, drop-in centres and shelters.

2019
DREAM BIG WITH PLAN INTERNATIONAL

In 2019, The Body Shop encouraged girls to dream big. In partnership with Plan International, they worked to give women and girls in Indonesia and Brazil the tools they need to succeed and unlock their dreams. Sadly, lots of girls in these countries don’t have access to education and employment. The Dream Big campaign supported an 18-month programme that provided young women with vocational training and skills to help them start their own businesses or find good, safe employment. The Body Shop has been helping 1,500 young women through this programme.

I posted earlier that I'll be sharing how the Body Shop has helped women around the world. I'm sharing in honor of International Women's Day today.

THE GLOBAL SHEA ALLIANCE

The Body Shop shea is handcrafted by women in Ghana, where the techniques have been handed down for generations. The Body Shops Community Fair Trade partnership ensures the women receive a fair price and benefits for their work, however, lots of shea is still exported from Ghana with little benefit to the women who produce it. In 2011 The Body Shop brought industry stakeholders together to form the Global Shea Alliance. The key objectives is to improve shea production, grow the market and to drive greater benefit to the women in the supply chain. The Sustainability Principles establish how shea collectors, processors, exporters and the brands that use shea should operate if they want to claim their supply chains are sustainable.

As well as paying a fair price, the Body Shop pays a premium to help empower these women and help them to achieve an independent income, increased confidence and respect. This premium also helps fund community projects that positively impact the lives of 49,000 people across 11 villages every year. These community projects include building 7 schools that educate 1,200 students and enabling access for the community to safe water and health centres.

2009 – 2012

STOP S*X TRAFFICKING OF CHILDREN & YOUNG PEOPLE

The Body Shop launched the Stop Trafficking of Children & Young People campaign with ECPAT International in 2009. It inspired change on an unprecedented scale, gathering over 7 million signatures from customers globally and leading to 24 countries across the world committing to adopting new legislation.

IN 2003

STOP VIOLENCE IN THE HOME

In 2003 The Body Shop launched Stop Violence in the Home, built on almost a decade of campaigning on the issue. The goal was to raise awareness and funds to support local partners helping those affected by domestic violence, including child survivors, as well as lobbying governments to enact legislation. Now running in more than 35 countries.

International Women's Day. A day where we reflect on the movement for women's rights

My whole life I have worked in male dominated industries and have often been the only woman in the room. I know what it's like to not be addressed in a meeting, not be looked at in the eyes or be disregarded. We may think this doesn't happen but it very much does and we need to choose to challenge.

My experiences didn't dull my sparkle, they made me stronger! I am confident and that confidence has taken me far and will continue to.

Today I reflect even more on how lucky I am to be on this journey with the Body Shop At Home. Since Anita Roddick opened The Body Shop in 1978, the company has been championing equality. This company firmly believes that equality benefits everyone and they are committed to advocating self-love and body acceptance, and through activism, campaign to make the world a fair and safe place for women and girls.
