About Mdm Chong:-
Mdm Chong has been active in the Sembawang & Chong Pang area since the 1960s. At 88, all she wants to do is to be independent & not become a burden to her family & country. Also, to be able to hang out doing what she loves – planting & feeding community cats. The community leaders at Chong Pang, namely Mr K Shumugan & his comrades have very kindly given her a little space at Blk 106 of Chong Pang Market, in front of the PCF Centre, to do what she likes with it. They even told her not to worry, if anything happens just approach the MP. They even draw up a yellow box for her to specify the space allocated to her. With this little space, she has grown lots of plants, primarily herbs to benefit the community over the past decades. She is well loved in that area & many supports her efforts by giving her some money in return for the plants they take. She then uses that money to buy more pots & soil to procreate more herbs. For decades she has built & rebuilt that little space that she so cherishes, to create a little piece of heaven, not just for herself but for her friends in the community. It’s her livelihood - it’s what she lives for every day to keep herself happy & motivated to wake up in the morning. It’s what keeps her alive, else she’d rather die.

What happened to her on 19 Jul 2022, Tue:-
At around 10:00 am, Mdm Chong almost died – her heart was torn to bits & spirit broken. About 10 men, claiming to be from Town Council, with axes & saws, approached her plants without any notice, to chop & saw away her tall plants, uprooted her herbs from their pots & threw them all away! She reasoned with them to stop, but they didn’t bother! She screamed & shouted for them to stop, but they didn’t care! There was nothing, NOTHING at all Mdm Chong could do! Helpless – she could only stand there in tears watching her precious babies being massacred before her very own eyes! It was like World War II replaying once again to her, when she watched the invading soldiers kill so many people before her own eyes! She was devastated! She was bullied! She was traumatised!
