Congratulations to our senior student Yara who successfully completed her last midwifery placement with us earlier this month! 🎉🎉

Her perseverance and commitment to seeing it through and her dedication to providing great care for clients and babies are things we'll always remember about her and we know she's only going to build on them in her career.

On to graduation and being a fully fledged midwife now! We can't wait to see all the things you do Yara :) 🤰

We're so excited to welcome our newest team member Madison Balleza to Hawthorne Midwives!

Hello! My name is Madison (she/her).

I was born in Calgary but I’ve called Mississauga home for most of my life. I completed the
Midwifery Education Program at Toronto Metropolitan University. Before this, I graduated with
an Honours Bachelor of Science degree at McMaster University with a minor in mental health
studies.

What drew me most to midwifery is the model of informed choice, continuity of care, and
advocacy for accessible, equitable care. I value creating a space where clients feel heard and
empowered to make decisions that align with their values, needs, and goals.

Outside of midwifery, I love spending time with my family and my dog, Mikkie. I also enjoy yoga,
knitting, reading, and photography. I’m excited to be part of this community and to support you
during your pregnancy, birth, and beyond!

We're hoping for many more of these deliveries where both midwives previously on Team 3 (Maryam and Meekee) can attend deliveries of the clients who started on that team. It's the silver lining of the two of them being on different teams now :)

Some goodbyes are bittersweet and today we're saying goodbye to our dear midwife Eden from Team 2 as she starts a new advneture in Ottawa 💛 She's been such a special part of our team and community and we're going to miss her so much. 

Eden, your warmth, kindness, and constant support  and advocacy have touched so many families — and all of us have been so lucky to work alongside you. While we’ll miss seeing you around the office, we’re so excited for what’s ahead for you. Ottawa is gaining an incredible midwife, and we’ll be cheering you on every step of the way 🥳

The babies were keeping us busy yesterday, but we wanted to take a moment to recognize May 5th as International Day of the Midwife, and to celebrate our team and all our midwifery colleagues around the world!

Rooted in informed choice, active participation in a care plan, and continuity of care, midwives hold their clients and their experiences through the happy and the sad, the easy and the difficult, the memories and the plans, guiding and helping when needed. Each moment of midwifery work, each sleepless night, and every pregnancy and delivery is incomparable to the next and an ongoing lesson to us all.

Thank you to our clients who trust us with their care and allow us to walk alongside them in these journeys of new parenthood, growing their families, and bringing their little ones earth side. 🤍👶🏼

Continuing our Admin Day appreciation, we'd like to do a shout-out and say a big thank you to Kevin, our amazing accountant at Hawthorne Midwives.

So much of what Kevin does happens quietly behind the scenes, but it makes such a difference to our day-to-day work. From keeping everything organized to making sure our finances are in good shape, and answering tax questions as needed, he’s someone we truly rely on.
