I've been reflecting on burnout after this last weekend.

Yes, there's truth to the perspective in that a great deal of it stems from our own survival strategies.

BUT. In this profession the unrealistic expectations of others cannot be discounted in the further destruction that is burnout.

And when a Practitioner meets or exceeds those unrealistic expectations the fallout is even greater whenever not met.

The pressure to fix, perform, and to be the answer to the problem is not the fault of the Practitioner alone.

Progress is Progress no matter how slow.
Backslides happen.
Life be lifing.
Better IS Better.

Personal responsibility is a thing.

Somatic Psychology Nuggies

This Module was deeply focused on the relationship between the Practitioner and the Client and where we can get stuck. It was honestly freeing. I'll set those aside for now.

1. Trying to change state by imposing shifts (breathing, movement, relaxation exercises) is outside goal-oriented and can override protective mechanisms. And not in a good way.

2. A new perspective on burnout- Running from ourselves. To avoid confronting our own survival styles and often to avoid feeling helpless- we overdo, over give, over everything.

3. Behaviors are symptoms of disorganization, not the problem. And beneath the behavior is a desire for State change.*

4. 'Transcendent State' is often simply Dissociation. There was an entire section diving into spirituality and growth. Leaning too far into either side (science or soul) leaves a gaping hole in the process.

This weekend was just SO GOOD and I'm excited to go deeper.

*The behavior piece very much reminded me of coming to the understanding that most issues with Cranial Nerves and Primitive Reflexes are often symptoms or the result of the problem, and not the problem itself.

Female Coaches I see on IG? Leading from 'signs and designs'.

Not it. Not my style and not the type of person I want to attract.

The more I'm honing this vision the more I see how different I am. And that's not a bad thing.

Two things.

1. Next weekend I will be in Module 2 of the Somatic Psychology class. Do you want me to share more nuggies?

2. After a few weeks of a crazy schedule, next week finally opens back up. If you've been wanting in now is the time.

NOTICE. Lots of talk happening.

Yes, my office building is for sale.

No, I have no plans to look for another space at this time.

I have no idea what is going on with the sale. It could take a long time to sell. It could take days. The people buying it could want to keep it all as is. Or they could plan a hostile takeover. Remains to be seen and I'll worry about it when I need to worry about it.

Until then, there are no changes happening for you or our work together.

Me: Hmmm I'm struggling between two niches for coaching*.

Also Me: Wait. Who says you can't combine both into something fantastically potent?!?!

Inside Me: Nobody you would listen to anyway.

The MEs have spoken. πŸ˜†

*Coaching is loosely applied to appease the state. Mentorship sounds better. Better check with the MEs.

It's interesting how uncomfortable some people get when seeing another become wildly successful.

Me giving personal and professional facts in an email: 105 spicy books read this year. Don't judge.

They are absolutely going to be judging. πŸ˜†

Day 3 Somatic Psychology Nuggies

β—‡ Toxic Shame (Self-Rejection/Hatred/Sabotage) is at the root of all adaptive survival strategies.

β—‡ Shifting away from self-shaming changes the fundamental relationship to Self.

β—‡ Explicit vs Implicit memory and how unreliable explicit memory is.

β—‡ By NOT focusing on the story it allows something new to take shape.

Personal Reflection of the last 3 days? Wow. I seriously can't wait to get the recordings so I can watch them a dozen times prior to the next 3 day training. I will be pulling gold out of it every time.

The fluid way this model and its organizing principles work with developmental trauma is refreshing. The focus on the human experience within the present moment and personal intention is chef's kiss.
