It is always humbling and amazing to be thrown back into experiences to learn lessons you thought you had already mastered.
The past couple of months I have had to relearn what pain feels like. I had to be thrown back into the experience of falling sick and not knowing what to do. I had to understand and experience the loneliness of illness under the hospital ceiling as you wait to literally
I was so comfortable with my life and where my health was to the point where I felt indestructible. In such a way that I thought the same old ways and management patterns were simply enough.
5years ago I was in really bad shape healthwise , I had no innerstanding of who I was and hadn't fully accepted that being ashamed of this chronic illness, letting others (doctors)do all the work and simply pretending it didn't exist wasn't working. Things only changed when I decided to nurture my self love, educate myself on and take responsibility for my life.
5years later, I became insanely comfortable and failed to realize as I was growing and building myself & my health up, the same old ways would not work. I failed to adapt with my changing pace and speed and the multiple things in my life.
As you know We can't solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them, and what got us here wont get us where we want to be. So there's a whole bunch of things I am learning and have had to relearn on management of sickle cell, self love, work, runningng a business, running an organization, eating well , farming etc. My journey is different from yours but I hope what I share can help provide clarity.
I will be sharing some of my experiences soon.

Beautiful Rising People, learning and relearning a couple of things more and more.
Mostly about business, running an organization., lots on time management and yess money!! Am I the only one who's still finding there way in the dark with some of these things?
I feel as though we are always under the microscope of perfect performance on all levels of our lives and sometimes(well most times) we retreat quietly into our different spaces forced to face our individual struggles alone in silence only to come out and share the edited version of what our lives truly are, when all is said and done.
This is not truth! And I would think everyone is at any given time going through perhaps a similar struggle and/or a different struggle however much so not unheard of. Wouldn't et be helpful for the collective to see these parts of our lives we keep so well hidden? To at the very least support or even seek inspiration in watching you overcome/go through the said struggle to come out the other side possibly burnt, maimed, bruised to live to tell the tale?! We're all scared to be ridiculed in these moments of raw vulnerability and even cautious in giving fuel to our so called 'haters' who live to see you fail..But does et really matter?
Perhaps.
Personally, I don't think et does. When intent is true and good, I say by all means. There's strength in not filtering or editing out your truth. There's also fear, hurt, shame etc., but there's also love, support and understanding. I have been searching for that fine line between shameless vulnerability and TMI. Rather cautious not to involve those in my life who are part of my story to be forced into what I call openness and to them, an invasion of privacy.
I think those moments are important and choosing to keep or share them is up to you.

Alert!
"..I was in the hospital more times than I could count and every single time I wondered, how in the world can I be able to prevent this from ever happening again? I didn’t get any answers. Especially from the doctors who told me this would be my life. I live with a chronic illness so this will essentially happen every so often.
For some reason that didn’t sit well with me. I didn’t choose this. And there was nothing I could do. So I continued to live passively, crossing my fingers waiting to see what will happen tomorrow. Hoping and holding my breathe that everything goes well for as long as it can. Nonetheless, I always found myself in hospital, praying for relief from the pain and calling out to the doctors to give me the strongest pain killer they had to just take it all away.
That ounce of relief was my addiction, and I was dependent on morphine, pethidine, tramadol and any other op**te just to get that.Don’t get me wrong, I wasn’t hooked to the drugs, I just couldn’t stand the pain.
Living like this was all I knew, and it worked for most of my life. Until it didn’t..." Read More .. On My Sexy Blog below

Has anyone ever told you that Sickle Cell warriors only live up to a certain age? And somehow they planted that seed of doubt and fear and even you started to believe it? Well, that is completely false. There's no one who can or even has a right to put a time cap on your life.
This is my reason why you should not listen to all that crazy talk.
Let me know below, has anyone close to you ever suggested that Sickle Cell warriors can only live to a certain age? How did you feel about it?
Please do watch the video and pass this on.
Sickle Cell Is Not A Death Sentence With so many misconceptions around Sickle Cell, this by far is the most common, well at least here in Kenya. The number of times people have outrightly been s...

We were 4 children in our family. My two older sisters and I were diagnosed months after birth with Sickle Cell Disease (SCD). However our youngest and only brother was born with normal Hb meaning no sickle cell trait or disease. Three children with sickle cell disease was no easy feat for my parents. And back in the 80's, with limited info on mgmt of the disease, they had to rely fully on the doctors/nurses. Some uninformed took upon themselves to give 'deadlines' to our lives, assuming that children with Sickle Cell could not live beyond a certain age. I was initially told I'd never see my 9th birthday, then my 17th, then my 21st ..until I stopped listening.
That aside, it was terrible to lose our eldest sister before she attained the age of puberty. She contracted malaria which spread to the brain and in turn promoted various complications that her body could not fight. Through the years, we have grown stronger in mind, body & spirit. Our parents have raised warriors. Even our amazing brother Paul is a warrior for his unending care & support for us.
With every photo/story posted, I hope to give a voice to that wich only a couple of years ago was spoken in closed circles and in hospitals. I am creating a new perspective on SCD, not as an obstacle but as an opportunity to expand & grow. By experiencing this pain of loss and crisis, we are reminded of the endurance we posses. Endurance of the physical& psychological challenges of the warrior journey, endurance that precipitates will power; the ability to withstand the impermanence of life's experiences good or bad & detaching from them. Warriors are not defined by SCD, they are not defined at all. The ability to thrive even with the disease is the essence of the warrior.

My coming out story is a bit odd..And ties to My Sickle Cell story which started even before I was born. I didn’t know I would reach a point in my life where I felt trapped, suffocated and in pain yearning to escape. However, I also never thought I would embrace the ugly, gruesome and morose moments as defining moments in my life.., ..For a very long time I’ve been in the closet hiding my true self. And for a couple of years now every time I thought about coming out, something happened and I talked myself out of it. I didn’t know how to start or where to begin. I felt like I was cheating on the community I was working for. Truthfully, I was afraid of how people would look at me after seeing me in my true self".. Prevention, however you look at it is Always and will always be better than Cure. So., I'm sure this photo might not make sense now but stay with me.. A lot of people especially those within the community have been asking how I stay so healthy with all the work I do. First thing you should know, I pain & feeling unwell. So the only way for me to stay from what I hate most is to make sure, I eliminate my susceptibility to things that cause illness, infection & anything that may lead to a hospital.
Everyday for the past 3years I've developed a habit of drinking 1litre of . At times I substitute lemon water with and juice and . Ultimately the only thing that remains the same is the lemon and or infused water.
Aside from the obvious benefits of which helps your immunity by boosting absorption of iron, reduce uric acid and inflammation , helps healing of wounds, improving digestive health and keeps you hydrated ( which are all great for btw) ; Lemon Water is a winner in balancing your body's pH levels and making the the body alkaline. Why is this important?
Well, is . And when it comes to our body's pH levels, it's the key to life! Our body's operate optimally on the small pH range slightly above 7 say, 7.35-7.45 and we help balance this pH by eating more alkaline-forming foods and fewer acid-forming foods .
When we eat excessive acid-forming foods ( meat, dairy, fish, fast foods, processed foods, refined starch and sugars) ,our body's will need to bring our blood pH back into balance by releasing alkaline-rich minerals like calcium phosphorus and magnesium which is pulled from our bones, teeth and organs., into our bloodstream. This compromises our body's natural immune system, causing fatigue, infection and disease. This especially for and most people staying ., this is important to understand. What we eat goes along way in adding or subtracting to the of our bodies.
For me; If anything this is it. to wellness but not the only sauce :-) and true
