Upcoming progress in a career of Hairstyling

How it all started...

My name is Elexus Montgomery. I grew up in Niagara falls. A tourist town. With most tourist towns comes a lot of seasonal employment. You work crazy backbreaking hours during the summer, and during the winter you collect unemployment and let the lethargy and depression seep through your bones. I’ve always hated it. I always wanted to do something more but being a high school dropout I didn’t know what. My mother was an artist. I inhibited her talents, but I never did much with it. I didn’t think I could do much with it. I’ve sold a few canvases but I never felt like it was completely from the heart. I always felt I wasn’t completely happy with it, but I hear that’s what a true artist’s soul is. That need to always do better. Achieve bigger and brighter.
I turn 26 this year in May. This is also the year I consider myself to be an adult. Not 18, not 19, but 26. All those excuses I’ve used have become old stories and now it’s time to think about what I want to do for the rest of my life, which has always been a terrifying concept to me. If you could choose one thing to do for the rest of your life, what would it be? A question that since being a small child I have never been able to answer. It sounds corny but I just want to do something I love. Something that doesn’t feel like work. Something I wake up in the morning excited to do, but also challenging enough that it keeps me interested and driven for more.
When I was a kid, 13-15 I got my first straight razor. I thinned the crap out of my hair and absolutely loved it. I started cutting all the other kids my age’s hair and found myself get lost in the design. Time would past by, and it felt like nothing. The excitement and panic of cutting a piece off and having it turn into something someone loved. I still to this day cut my own hair because I wear it choppy and imperfect.
I decided this year that this is what I wanted to do. I got a few sideways looks, a few “whys” and “are you sures” I also got an endless amount of support from my close friends and family. My daughter even laughed at me when I told her one day I’ll be in a salon. Either way, This is something I feel passionate about learning. I feel passionate about pursuing as a career, and I’ve made this page to share with my loved ones along the way. I’m really excited to see what this all has in store.
Thankyou for taking the time to read this, I hope it can give you a better idea of who I am, where I come from and where I wish to be, with the help of all of you.
Sincerely,
E. Montgomery
