🎥 Deep Roots: 30 Years of Cannabis in Canada
Thirty years ago, few could have imagined walking into a store to buy premium, Canadian-grown cannabis. From 1938 to 1998, h**p was illegal but in 1995 under Natural Emphasis, we began selling h**p products and advocating for legalization through education. A three-year research project with Dr. Ernest Small, studying 180 h**p varieties, revealed the therapeutic potential of CBD and led to the creation of Canada’s first CBD brand, **pcbd.
In 2013, we incorporated ABIDE, earning one of Health Canada’s first 20 licences to build. Our belief in full-spectrum wellness balancing THC, CBD, and terpenes guided our product innovation. Following nationwide legalization in 2018, we launched WholeH**p, dedicated to h**p-based CBD, alongside our outdoor cultivation in Trent Hills.
Today, in 2025, ABIDE and WholeH**p continue to grow nationwide, offering thoughtfully crafted collections that help Canadians discover balance through the full therapeutic potential of the cannabis plant.

It’s harvest time! A season of gratitude and awe. The air is filled with the rich aroma of fresh flower, a testament to the care and dedication of our incredible farmers. Through regenerative practices like minimal tilling, cover crops, and a commitment to growing without herbicides or pesticides, they nurture both the land and the plant.

DEEP ROOTS: LEGALIZATION (Part:3) - Video Teaser
The landscape of cannabis in Canada shifted dramatically when Prime Minister Trudeau announced in 2015 that legalization was forthcoming. In 2016, the government established a task force and regulatory framework to guide legalization and regulation. While outdoor cultivation initially faced resistance, it was ultimately included, along with h**p-based CBD, in the finalized regulations.
On October 17, 2018, cannabis was legalized nationwide. We began with a research and lab licence, which later expanded into both processing and outdoor cultivation licences. With this foundation, we decided to take a different approach launching WholeH**p, the first Canadian brand dedicated exclusively to h**p-based CBD. At the same time, we planted our first outdoor crop on our farm in Trent Hills.
Building on our expertise and commitment to therapeutic cannabis, we developed balanced products by blending our higher-THC Abide flower with WholeH**p CBD flower. Today, in 2025, Abide and WholeH**p offer full collections designed to help consumers find their own balance. We are proud to have expanded beyond Ontario, with products now available in provinces across the country.

DEEP ROOTS: MEDICAL MA*****NA (Part: 2) - Video Teaser
In 2013, the federal government introduced stricter regulations and established a framework for companies to apply for licences to cultivate medical cannabis. It was during this time that ABIDE was incorporated, and we were granted one of the first 20 Health Canada “letters to build.”
We recognized that medical cannabis is more than just THC. It’s true therapeutic potential lies in the synergy of the whole plant: major and minor cannabinoids, including THC and CBD, working together with terpenes to create a full-spectrum benefit.
This understanding inspired us to explore full-spectrum products more deeply, a direction that became instrumental in shaping our future. It guided the launch of our first ABIDE product, an outdoor-grown, balanced blend of THC and CBD crafted to deliver the holistic benefits of the entire plant.

It would be hard to imagine 30 years ago that it would be possible to walk into a store and buy high quality Canadian made cannabis in an array of varieties.
From 1938- 1998 industrial h**p was completely illegal, so we wanted to help make changes. In 1995 under “Natural Emphasis” we started selling h**p products at festivals. The focus then moved on to legalization through education.
A 3-year research project with Dr. Ernest Small and grew 180 different varieties of h**p that we sourced from all over the world. Little did we know at the time it would lead to the therapeutic benefits of H**p in particular CBD and launching the first Canadian CBD Brand WholeH**p.
