Last night Nary was talking to a girl selling bracelets on the street to suppliment her families income. She is one of the lucky ones, she has an Australian sponsor that pays the $20 per month for her education. She can already speak English fluently and has many dreams for the future. With education comes a resistance to being abused or trafficked. Nary wants to support education for girls through her social enterprise once it grows. Please visit www.narystyle.com
Nary at The Impact Hub Phnom Penh doing a Social Enterprize course on the weekend. She learnt about the many aspects of running a social enterprise and met many people that can assist her in the future. Exposure to new ideas is so critical when making change in their own lives and the lives of others.
A last few product images and we are right for our launch. This is the silk range 'Palace'. I love the colours in this range. Some Cambodian personality shining through there :-)

Social Enterprise is a way of enabling individuals to make a difference in their own lives and to those around them. Nary Style was initiated and created in collaboration with David Brown Films along with many sponsors and supporters. We are creating a business model that directly connects people on the ground in 'developing' countries to individuals in more affluent countries. This direct interaction not only provides people access to cultural products, it generates income and enables exchange of information and culture, creating understanding and collaboration between individuals and in the wider community. The philosophy of this model is to support leaders in communities in creating sustainability for those around them. Congratulations to Nary and we wish her every success for the future :-)
David Brown Films | a new way of seeing your world Personal stories are very real and authentic expression of an individual. Often the expression of that story creates change for an individual and those around them. I provide an unobtrusive space for individuals to express their personal stories.
Nary and her twin sister Apec were born not long after the Khmer Rouge era and live in central Phnom Penh the capital city of Cambodia. For long periods the family survived on plain rice with fish sauce. They lost 2 brothers and their mother due to illness. The family remains close, running a roadside restaurant together, near the Royal Palace in the capital.
Congratulations to the www.narystyle.com crew in Cambodia in completing a product shoot yesterday for the social enterprise. The skills learnt by everybody involved in the project along the way is one of the great benefits. It can have its moments too, everybody just wants to do their best but it can be difficult relaying complex information through a language barrier while learning the processes. Great job team ;-)
This is the roadside restaurant where Nary works every day with her family. It is in an area that has never had the drainage fixed that was damaged in the Khmer Rouge era, whenever it rains the shops are quickly flooded in a metre of water, shutting down the families income for the evening and destroying food supplies. This is quite devastating for the families as they are already struggling. Despite this Nary's family regroups and is ready for trading the next day along with their big smiles. Courage in action :-)
Very happy that we are launching a Social Enterprise in Cambodia next week. We have attracted many supporters along the way who have been so generous with their time and resources. Stay tuned for more stories about Nary Style and the difference it has made already. Stay tuned to hear the amazing stories from the streets of Cambodia :-)

A Krama is a traditional Cambodian garment with many uses, a scarf, a bandanna, to carry children, to cover the face, and for decorative purposes. It is the Cambodian national symbol. We recently took a photo of a woman on the streets of Phnom Penh wearing a Krama
Recently in Phnom Penh Linda Bell from www.essentialexplorations.com, generously donated her time and skills to the project to take some images for Nary Style. This was the final link needed to complete the project so we will be up and running within days. Thank you so much Linda Bell :-)

Thankyou so much everybody for supporting our crowd funding campaign. In total $2277 was contributed for the campaign, the project can now move into the next stage. Nary was moved to tears because not only does it mean she will have a business to help her family, for her your contributions are a signal that the world is listening and the world cares what happens to people. That is huge. So many hidden benefits from starting social businesses.
We are excited to roll out the project, soon we will be setting up the website, creating packaging and putting systems in place for ordering and delivery.
Once the website is up and running the people who selected scarves as a reward will be notified and can then select from the entire range online. All rewards will then be promptly sent out.
We will keep you updated as the project progresses, you are an integral part of the team that made it possible.
Thank you from the heart of Cambodia # # #
Some of you may have seen this earlier, here is a thank you video from Nary and her sister.
