In our Anti-Itch Bug Bite Salve, Pansy joins Plantain, Lemon Balm, Calendula and Stinging Nettle — five herbs chosen with purpose.

Stinging Nettle has a reputation that usually arrives before the herb does. Brush against the fresh plant and you’re unlikely to forget it! 😄

But the sting doesn’t tell the whole story.

Once carefully harvested and dried, nettle becomes a very different botanical material — and one that has held a place in traditional herbal practice for generations.

During the slow infusion, oil-soluble plant constituents gradually move from the botanicals into the nourishing carrier oils — creating the infused oil that becomes the botanical heart of our Willow & Bark Anti-Itch Bug Bite Salve. 💚

🌿 NATURE KNOWS BEST — WHY DRIED HERBS?

Why do we use dried herbs rather than freshly picked ones when making our infused oils?

Fresh herbs naturally contain a lot of water. While that’s perfectly normal in a living plant, introducing that moisture into an oil infusion can create conditions where microbial growth and mould may develop, shortening the life of the infusion.

That’s why we begin with carefully dried botanicals. 🌱

Drying removes much of the plant’s natural moisture before the herbs are slowly infused into nourishing oils, allowing us to capture their oil-soluble constituents while making a more stable infusion.

These botanical oils then become part of our Willow & Bark Anti-Itch Bug Bite Salve.

It takes a little longer, but every step has a purpose. 🤍
