What is a "zero dose" child and why should we be concerned?
More and more children in South Africa are not getting any routine childhood immunisations. So-called "zero dose children" are at greater risk of getting seriously ill or dying and are also likely to miss out on other lifesaving interventions, like growth monitoring. Children who don't complete the full schedule of vaccines are also more susceptible to diseases, like measles. Always make sure your child's immunisations are up to date.

MYTH: Vaccines don't work.
It is possible to contract COVID immediately after vaccination because the body can take weeks to develop immunity. However, being vaccinated greatly reduced the risk of severe disease, hospitalisation, and death. It also helped control the spread of the virus thereby protecting the broader community.
