Why is my melasma not going away?
(also known as Pigmentation/Chubaba/Blemishes/Dark Spots)

Melasma often does not go away because of ongoing triggers like UV and visible light, continuous hormone influences, and deep skin pigment.

Common Reasons Melasma Persists
Sun and Light Exposure: Even brief contact with sunlight, indoor bright light, or light through windows activates pigment cells. Regular sunscreen without a tinted iron oxide blocker may not block visible light.

Active Hormones: Birth control pills, hormone therapy, or natural shifts like pregnancy keep pigment cells stimulated.

Heat and Inflammation: Heat from the sun, cooking, or hot workouts directly triggers melanin production. Harsh skin products can also cause irritation and worsen dark spots.

Deep Pigment and Stubbornness: Melasma can sit deep within the skin layers, making it a chronic condition that requires long-term care rather than a quick fix.

How can I remove melasma from my face permanently?

Most cases of melasma will fade away with time and especially with good protection from sunlight and other sources of light. Unfortunately, there is no definitive treatment that will automatically make melasma disappear. At this time there is no way to remove dermal pigment.

It's important to protect your face and use safe and effective products (Complexion Cream, HP-B3 Cream, HP-Mel Cream) and include a Lactic Acid Toner or Glycolic Night Cream safely accelerate skin cell turnover to lift dark patches faster.

Daily Protection and Skin Care

* Tinted mineral sunscreen: Apply an SPF 30 or higher containing iron oxide every morning, even indoors, because visible light and heat worsen melasma.

* Gentle products: Stop using scrubs or stinging acids that cause inflammation and trigger more melanin production.

* Avoid heat triggers: Stay away from tanning beds, waxing, and intense heat like hot yoga that reactivate dark spots

Essential Rules for Treating Melasma

Never Skip SPF 50: South Africa's UV index is extremely high. Without strict daily application of a broad-spectrum medical-grade sunscreen, any bleaching cream will fail or make the melasma darker.

Avoid Heat: Melasma is triggered by both UV rays and visible heat/infrared light, so physical sun protection and staying cool matter just as much as topicals.
