Is my syringe only half full? 🤔

We get this question a lot.

The empty space you see inside the syringe is intentional and is called headspace, it’s an important part of the packaging design, not missing product.

Here’s why:

•You still receive the full labeled volume. Each syringe is accurately filled to its stated content (e.g. 2 mL), regardless of the visible air space.

•Allows the plunger to function properly. Headspace prevents product from being forced out when the cap is removed or the plunger is pressed.

•Accommodates pressure and temperature changes. During manufacturing, shipping, and storage, products naturally expand and contract. Headspace helps maintain package integrity.

•Helps prevent leaks and ensures a reliable seal. Proper headspace reduces the risk of leakage while protecting product quality.

This isn’t unique to syringes.

If you’ve ever opened a cosmetic tube, you’ve probably noticed it can also appear 30–50% empty. That’s because tubes also require headspace for filling, sealing, product dispensing, and pressure changes. The appearance of empty space does not determine how much product is inside, the net content printed on the packaging does.

So while your syringe or tube may not look completely full, you are still receiving the full labeled amount of product.
