Inner Fire Henna (Formerly Lydi's Mehndi Designs) Resources for aspiring henna artists who want to master the basics to create their own beautiful designs. Based in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa.

Natural henna is the best way to do the most stunning details that chemical-loaded commercial cones can never let you do. Commercial cones stunt your artistic growth and can cause painful skin reactions in the short-term, along with scarring and internal damage (when the chemicals are absorbed into your bloodstream) in the long-term.

When you use natural henna, you'll get the darkest, richest colour from your body art. It also says something quite special about you - that you're particular about what goes on your skin, you love supporting local, and that you care fiercely about the effect that harmful chemicals has on the environment.

My silky-smooth formula is available to you; I mix my pure henna myself using:

🌿 organic henna powder
🌿 pure eucalyptus essential oil
🌿 organic brown sugar, and
🌿 water.

I don't have to add any harmful chemicals to my mix to artificially get a strikingly dark colour. It's just naturally luscious, smooth and dark-staining. It's the same formula I use for my professional appointments, so you can get the same gorgeous experience at home. This Friday, Jolene excitedly signed up for my 1-on-1 beginner henna class. It was wonderful seeing her again (you'll remember her from her stunning Matric dance henna designs I did last year, where she's wearing a beautiful blue top).

Her progress throughout the class was absolutely FANTASTIC (and way better than I was when I first started out!). First, she worked through each simple element slowly and carefully. Then, she used two of my henna strip designs as a guideline to trace out freehand so it helped her get used to putting the elements together. I was so impressed with how quickly she grasped all the concepts, and at how each element became more and more transformed and refined from start to finish.

At the end of the class, she was super excited to have learnt this addictive ancient skill...and it's a secret weapon for doing the most gorgeous simple henna designs for any occasion!
