Heritage is more than where we come from. It is the stories we carry, the traditions we preserve and the values we pass on.
Before he became known to the world as Nelson Mandela, and before he was given the name Nelson because he needed an English name at school, he was Rolihlahla.
His name, his Xhosa heritage and the traditions he grew up with were an important part of the man he became.
Within this home, those parts of his story continue to live through the photographs, objects, stories and spaces that offer a glimpse into the person behind the name the world came to know as Madiba.
September is Heritage Month, a time to reflect on the many histories, cultures and traditions that make South Africa what it is. This month, we invite you to immerse yourself in some of our country's history by stepping into the home where Nelson Mandela lived, welcomed family and friends, and made memories of his own.
Come and discover the stories held within our Heritage Home, and perhaps leave with a deeper appreciation of the heritage you carry with you.
Because understanding where we come from gives us another way to understand one another.

Heritage Day throwback: four years of culture, colour, and connection at Kruger Station.
Every year on Heritage Day, our team steps into traditional attire - not as a performance, but as a proud reflection of who we are.
It’s a celebration of South Africa’s diversity, shared through the people who welcome, serve, cook, and care for every guest who walks through our doors.
Different backgrounds. One team. One shared spirit.
Here’s to many more years of honouring where we come from - together.

Did You Know? 💀
Tucked within Cape Point, the Buffelsfontein Visitor Centre is home to the fascinating Origins of Early Southern Sapiens Behaviour exhibition.
What will you discover? Remarkable findings from archaeological sites such as Blombos Cave, Klipdrift Shelter, and Klasies River, which help tell the story of how early humans lived along South Africa's southern coastline between 120,000 and 50,000 years ago.
This hidden gem adds a deeper layer to your Cape Point visit, connecting the beauty of the landscape with the story of the people who lived here thousands of years ago.
Add it to your next Cape Point adventure and take a journey through time.
What makes the women at Sanctuary Mandela so special?
We asked one of our team members, and her answer reminds us that it is often the smallest acts of care that leave the greatest impression.
A warm welcome. Thoughtful attention to detail. A listening ear. The quiet ability to make someone feel seen, comfortable and at home.
This Women's Month, we celebrate the women whose kindness, strength and generosity help shape the experience of everyone who walks through our doors.
Their care is woven into the fabric of this home, creating moments that guests may never forget, even if they never see the effort behind them.
Because a home is not defined by its walls, but by the people who fill it with warmth.
Today, we celebrate the women whose presence makes
Sanctuary Mandela feel like home.
