You deserve to heal. 🌱
Working on yourself is the most selfless work you can do.
When you heal, everyone around you heals too.
Can I tell you something nobody tells you about depression? 💚
It steals your identity.
It makes you forget who you were before the dark came.
It makes you question if that person ever really existed.
It whispers that you are too broken to be loved.
Too damaged to be chosen.
Too far gone to be healed.
And you start to believe it.
But here is what I know to be true —
You are not your worst days.
You are not your diagnosis.
You are not the version of yourself that depression created.
You are someone who has been carrying something heavy for a very long time.
And you are still here.
Still breathing.
Still trying.
Still worthy of every good thing life has to offer.
Do not let the darkness define you.
You are so much more than what you have been through. 🌱
Save this for the days you forget who you are. 💚

5 Things That Helped Me Survive Depression 💚
I want to share what actually worked for me — not textbook advice, but real things that pulled me through my darkest days.
1. CRYING 😢
I gave myself permission to cry. Crying is not weakness — it is your body releasing pain it cannot hold anymore. Let it out.
2. GOSPEL MUSIC 🎵
When I had no words left, the music spoke for me. It reminded me I was not forgotten. Put on a song and let it carry you.
3. PRAYER 🙏
I talked to God even when I was angry. Even when I had no faith left. I showed up anyway. And slowly — He showed up too.
4. TALKING TO SOMEONE 💬
I stopped pretending I was fine. I told someone the truth. Silence keeps you sick. Speaking starts the healing.
5. PROFESSIONAL HELP 🏥
I saw a psychiatrist, a psychologist and an occupational therapist. There is no shame in it. You would see a doctor for a broken leg — your mind deserves the same care.
These 5 things are all inside my FROM ASHES TO GLORY healing journal 📖
"If the brain can change, so can your story."

I want to tell you something I kept quiet for a long time. 💚
I battled depression. Not just sadness — the kind of dark that swallows you whole and makes you forget who you are.
But that is only part of my story.
I also watched my father fight mental illness for 28 years. 28 years!! He was blind, epileptic and diabetic — and through all of it, my mother stood by him without breaking. I watched love in its most sacrificial form, and I watched what untreated mental illness costs a family.
Those two things — my own pain and my father's journey — changed everything about how I see healing.
I found my way through with Kundalini yoga, gospel music, prayer, crying (yes, crying is healing!), talking to someone, and eventually getting professional help. A psychiatrist. A psychologist. An occupational therapist. I used every tool available to me.
And then I asked myself — what if I could put those tools into the hands of someone who is struggling right now?
That is why I created the FROM ASHES TO GLORY journal. 📖
It is a 30-day mood tracker and reflection journal for people walking through depression and healing. Written not by a doctor — but by someone who has been in the dark and found the light.
"If the brain can change, so can your story."
If this speaks to you — or someone you love — the journal is available now. 👇

From my upcoming book: A Thorn in My Flesh
Many people think depression always looks like sadness.
But sometimes it looks like a smile.
I smiled at church.
I laughed with friends.
I cared for my children.
Yet inside, I felt hollow.
People told me I was strong. My friend Mabhena used to say it often.
What they didn’t see was that my strength was not peace — it was survival.
Because even when we are broken, we learn to act normal.
We laugh, we greet people, we carry on with life.
And that is why many people never realize that something is wrong.
Depression is often an invisible battle.

🌿 Topic: “What Does Depression Look Like to You?”
“Depression doesn’t look the same for everyone.
For some, it’s tears and isolation. For others, it’s smiling through the pain, keeping busy, or pretending to be okay.
What does depression look like to you—or to someone you’ve cared for? Let’s talk about it. 💛”

🎭 The Face of Depression
We smile.
We laugh.
We show up.
But deep down — we’re fighting battles no one sees.
Depression doesn’t always look broken.
Sometimes, it looks brave.
Sometimes, it looks like you.
You don’t have to hide behind the smile anymore.
It’s okay to say, “I’m not okay.”
That’s where healing begins. 💚
