We cannot stress enough about moisturizing your hair!!
Your hair is like a tree, the more water, huge more it flourishes and grows, the less water, the more the leaves and branches break and fall off!!
Choose water based products to help your crown grow into a beautiful healthy tree!

SUMMER!!!!
Summer has begun, and you know what that means?? Itโ€™s time to wear your hair out! ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿฝ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿฝ
However, there are still a few tips that we need to follow to ensure our hair stays in tiptop shape!!

1. Even though the cold and wind of winter are gone, your hair still needs protection. The sunโ€™s UV radiation can quickly damage your hair if you are outside for long, as well as burn your scalp and even discolor your hair. Use a leave-in conditioner with SPF to protect your hair and scalp, (If you can find one) and if you know youโ€™ll be outside for an extended period of time, cover your hair with a scarf or hat.

2. The sun is already drying out your hair, so donโ€™t amplify the effect with heat tools. (Plus, who wants to deal with a blowout in summer humidity?) So put away the straightener and blow dryer, and make the summer heat-free!

3. Speaking of humidity and frizz- use them to your advantage! Summer might not be the perfect time for a blowout, but it is a great time to rock an afro, puffs, or other voluminous styles. Pay attention to how your hair reacts to humidity, and use that knowledge to try different styles and celebrate your natural hair.

4. Use lighter products in the summer, and less of them. Since you sweat more in the summer, limiting product buildup on your scalp will keep you from needing to wash your hair all the time, and will keep your hair from looking weighed down.

5. Even using less products in the summer, you might need to shampoo more often than normal, depending on how active your lifestyle is. Use a sulfate-free, clarifying shampoo after outdoor activities like swimming, hiking, running, biking, etcโ€ฆ anything that results in sweat, saltwater, or chlorine coming in contact with your hair. If you do these activities more than once a week, use co-wash on some days.

6. Coat your hair with oil prior to swimming. This limits the amount of chlorine or saltwater your hair will absorb (both chlorine and saltwater dry out natural hair.) We also recommend putting your hair in twists, which further limits water absorption as well as tangles. After swimming, wash your hair thoroughly with shampoo or co-wash. If you swim often, integrate protein treatments into your regimen to maintain the strength of your hair.

7. This one is simple: keep your hair moisturized. (Do we sound like a broken record yet?) The summer sun and heat tend to strip moisture away from your hair, and shampooing more often makes it worse. Use a moisturizer or leave-in conditioner every day, or try the LOC (liquid, oil, cream) method to keep your hair from drying out throughout the day.

8. Speaking of moisture, deep conditioning is the best way to keep your hair hydrated (and nourished) throughout the summer. Deep condition at least every two weeks, and try doing it more often if your hair seems to be drying out too quickly.

9. Drink lots of water and eat healthy foods! If your body is dehydrated or malnourished, your hair will be too. Most doctors recommend drinking at least 2 liters of water per day, which is eight glasses of water. Remember if youโ€™re sweating, you need to drink even more!

Have fun with your hair this summer!!
Which of these tips are you already practicing?!

๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฝ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฝ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฝ

I had to reshare this one.

1. Constant manipulation eg daily combing, over styling
High manipulation = breakage = no length retention

2. Combing natural hair while dry
Dry hair will always break. Breakage= no length retention.

3. Using fine toothed combs causes breakage.
Breakage = no length retention

4. Oiling only instead of moisturizing & oiling
Oiled only = dry hair = breakage = no length retwntion.

5. Combing hair starting at the roots instead of starting from the ends.
Causes breakage= no length retention

6. Not trimming off damaged ends
Causes breakage = no length retention

7. Going more than 4 weeks without washing your hair.
Causes dryness = breakage = no length retention

8. Tight hairstlyes
Cause damage and breakage = no growth no length retention

9. Too much heat (if you don't know how to use direct heat correctly don't do it)
Causes damage = breakage = no length retention.

10. Copying other people's products(products do not grow hair)

11. Not conditioning/ deep conditioning your hair.
Unconditioned hair is brittle = breakage = no length retention

12. Not protecting your hair while sleeping.
Causes friction = breakage = no length retention

13. Too much chemical use (no one's hair needs to be relaxed every month. Wait atleast 8 weeks to get a fresh relaxer)
Causes damage = breakage = no length retention

14. Neglecting your hair after putting it in a longterm protective hairstlye

15. Over trimming.
Hair should be trimmed when neccesary.
If you grow 0.5 inches a month and cut off an inch every month you will never retain length.

16. Complicated hair care routines

Create a basic routine then introduce one new thing at a time.

17. Negative attitude
If you believe that you can't grow long hair, you won't grow long hair. African hair is perfect, there is nothing other hair types can do that it cannot do too.

18. You are Impatient & not gentle with your hair.
Hair does not grow long overnight. It takes time that is why you need to be have a good, consistent healthy hair care routine. It is not something you do once and expect results immediately.
If you are not gentle you cause breakage = no length retention

19. You are only taking care of your roots and forgetting the length of your hair and especially your ends. If you don't care for your ends they will break off = no length retention.

20. You are relying on on product to cater for all of your hair's needs.
One product will never be enough to cater to all of your hair's needs. You needs a collection of good healthy hair care practices (all of the above)

From all of the above the common thing is breakage. The problem is never our hair growing, the problem is always our hair breaking faster or just as much as it grows. Stop breakage get longer hair.
