Malva pudding is a delicious South African dessert that is sweet, moist, and often served with a creamy sauce. Here's a simple recipe for making malva pudding:
Ingredients:
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1 tablespoon apricot jam
1 cup flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon melted butter
1 teaspoon vinegar
1/2 cup milk
For the sauce:
1 cup cream
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup hot water
Instructions:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C) and grease a baking dish with butter.
In a large bowl, mix together the sugar, egg, and apricot jam until smooth.
In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
Add the dry ingredients to the sugar mixture and mix well.
Stir in the melted butter, vinegar, and milk to form a smooth batter.
Pour the batter into the greased baking dish and bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the pudding is golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
While the pudding is baking, prepare the sauce. In a small pot, heat the cream, sugar, and butter together until the sugar has dissolved.
Once the pudding is done, remove it from the oven and use a fork to poke holes all over the surface.
Pour the hot sauce over the pudding, making sure it gets into all the holes.
Serve the malva pudding hot with a scoop of ice cream or whipped cream, if desired. Enjoy!
