TIP 8: DEEP CONDITIONING
What is it? This is the application of a thick and restorative formula to your hair, using heat to encourage the pe*******on of the formula into your hair.
Types of deep conditioning treatments:
1. Protein based deep conditioner: this strengthens the hair, improves elasticity and prevents breakage.
2. Moisturizing deep conditioners; this brings moisture back into the hair
How to deep condition your hair: Firstly after washing your hair, section it and begin to apply the deep conditioner which can either be protein based or moisturizing. Once done wear a shower cap or plastic bag on your head, doing this produces the heat needed for the deep conditioner to pe*****te the hair shaft. If you feel you need more heat then you can sit underneath the dryer (if you don't have one that's okay). Wait for 30 mins- and hour for your hair to absorb all the nutrients then rinse it out and style your hair however you may like.
Benefits: Repairs dry, damaged hair by rebuilding the hair molecular layer and replenishing moisture therefore encouraging thicker, softer and revitalised hair.
Available in stock is the protein based deep conditioning ORS hair mayonnaise.... Price K90

TIP 7: Comb correctly
Being natural involves a lot if combing, believe it or not but there is a way of combing correctly and combing wrongly and they both contribute to your hair growth.
Combing wrongly involves combing your hair when it is dry and a lot of yanking and pulling which causes a lot of hair loss, split ends and a sore scalp.
While combing your hair involves the following steps:
1. Start with wet or damp hair, this makes it easier for you to get through the knots and tangles without ripping much of your hair. You can wet your hair by using a spray bottle.
2. Add a leave in conditioner; this will make it easier for the comb to run smoothly through the hair and will also ensure that your hair is moisturized once it has dried out.
3. Section your hair, this helps you comb your hair faster without the other uncombed hair strands getting in the way
4. Grab a wide tooth comb or detangling brush; these combs have wide spaces which make it easier to remove all knots and tangles.
5. Finally, start from the bottom of your hair and work your way to the top. Most tangles are at the ends of your hair because that's the oldest and weakest part of your hair and therefore they get tangled easily. So always start from the bottom and work your way up.

TIP 6: Get better hair in your sleep
We all want beautiful hair that's effortless to achieve right, well the secrete to getting better hair in your sleep is by wearing a satin bonnet every night you go to bed.
Want to know why? Sleeping with a bonnet means no more split ends as it protects your hair from the dryness caused by friction your hair and moisture absorbing materials such as cotton. Remember the less split ends your hair has the longer and healthier it gets.
In addition to that, satin bonnets greatly reduce breakage, tangles and the thinning of hair.

TIP 5: Avoid frequent shampooing
Shampooing is great for hygiene purposes, it helps keep the hair and scalp cleaning by getting rid of product build up. However frequently shampooing your hair does pose a threat to your natural hair growth as it strips your hair of its natural oils.
The combination of hot water and over washing of the hair can strip of the scalp of its natural oils therefore resulting in it being dry and causing dandruff, hair loss and wounds due to scratching.
The best way to avoid this is to wash your hair once every two weeks with luke-warm or cold water so that the scalp is not stripped off its natural oils.

TIP 4: Avoid heat styling tool
Initially heat is good for hair growth as it allows hair products to easily pe*****te into the hair shafts. However excessive heat does damage the hair and this is caused by toning, straightening or over blowing, this leads to a reduction of curls on hair that does not seem to bounce back to its natural state easily.
You start to notice that your hair may seem looser or it may be straighter than it was previously or some hair may be straight and other parts are natural.
The best way to avoid heat damage is to:
1. Use less heat on your hair
2. Try heatless hair stretching methods. E.G African threads (tupomba)
3. Lastly, you can use a heat protectant whenever you are about to apply excessive heat on your hair.
NOTE: Heat damage can not be cured but you can treat it in the following ways:
1. By trimming out all the damaged hair strands
2. Followed by frequently deep conditioning the hair with a protein based deep conditioner to give your hair the strength and nutrients it needs.
TIP 3. EAT THE RIGHT FOODS
As we discussed last time our hair needs a healthy diet filled with nutritious food just like our body does. Something you might have not known is that our hair cells are the second fastest growing cells in our bodies and to add to this you roughly have 120,000 hairs on your scalp, all of which need to be nourished in order to grow. But sadly enough hair is not a vital organ or tissue, your body will never prioritize its nutritional needs. So due to hairs expendable nature, a nutritional imbalance will often show up first in the form of hair loss. Both deficiencies as well as excess of certain things in your diet can result in hair loss.
So how do your put a stop to having hair loss due to a poor diet, the following will guide you through;
Firstly, your hair cells as well as the cells through out your body need a balance of proteins, complex carbohydrates, iron, vitamins and minerals to function at their best.
Secondly, drinking lots of water is also very important because just like your skin your scalp can become dehydrated making for a poor growing environment. 1.5-2 liters a day is highly recommended.
Thirdly, iron is extremely important for hair growth so take lots of fruits that have a high content of vitamin C as it allows for iron to be absorbed effectively.
Lastly, avoid drinking plain black tea as this interferes with hair growth because without milk the tannins in tea are left free to bind with Iron in your body and can therefore deplete your Iron stores.

TIP 2. TRIMMING THE ENDS OF YOUR HAIR
As said last time trimming your hair while growing it out will actually encourage hair growth by getting rid of any damaged, broken or split ends.
Cutting your hair does make your hair grow longer but the science behind this is that our hair grows an average of a quarter inch every month whether you cut it or not but the breakage and split ends results in lose of length and that's why your hair feels like it's not growing. Trimming off those old and broken ends actually gives the appearance that your hair is growing a bit longer. You don't need to trim your hair every week to get rid of those ends, trimming your hair every after three months is ideal.
Caution do not cut your own hair, try to go to the salon or get a friend or relative to help you out so that your hair is evenly cut out.

This week we will dive deeper into understanding each of the simple 8 tips that can help you grow longer healthier hair and the products available for each tip. Today we will look at the first tip moisture
TIP 1. MOISTURE
Just like the rest of your body, hair constantly needs water as it helps to maintain it's elasticity, softness, natural shine and strength. Moisturized hair is less prone to breakage and tangles therefore moisturising your hair helps you retain length by eliminating those problems.
After shampooing, which can be drying follow it up with a moisturizing leave in conditioner, this will help your hair retain moisture. However if you do not feel like shampooing your hair but it does feel a bit dry, you can always use a spray bottle to spray the water into your hair and follow it up with a leave in conditioner.
To seal in the moisture you can use any hair oil of your choice e.g black Castor oil or Olive oil. Shea butter or hair food is also great for sealing in moisture
