REMARKABLE SURGICAL CASE AT LMUTH
Doctors at Levy Mwanawasa University Teaching Hospital successfully removed a 2.1 kg testicular mass from a 16-year-old boy who had experienced progressive scrotal swelling for about eight months.
The complex mass was surgically removed after careful assessment, and the teenager is reportedly recovering well with minimal pain.
👏 Congratulations to the surgical, anaesthesia and nursing teams at LMUTH for their expertise, teamwork and dedication to patient care.

Kakoso Hospital in Chililabombwe delivers a 5.2kg baby!

KAKOSO First Level Hospital in Chililabombwe has successfully delivered a macrosomic baby weighing approximately 5.2 kilograms.

The Hospital is calling on expectant mothers to seek early antenatal care to facilitate the early detection and management of complications such as big babies.

In a statement following the delivery, the Hospital says early booking and regular check-ups help health workers detect and manage complications such as big babies, post-date pregnancies and high blood pressure, thereby reducing risks during childbirth.

The Hospital says the mothers who gave birth to the macrosomic babies are in stable condition.

“We are encouraged by the safe delivery of these babies, including four macrosomic babies over 3.8kg. All mothers and babies are being closely monitored and are in stable condition,” the Hospital states.

The Hospital adds that yesterday, five caesarean sections were successfully performed between 08:32 hours and 15:34 hours.

On Wednesday, August 19, 2026, the Hospital conducted a caesarean section and delivered a macrosomic baby weighing approximately 5.2 kilograms.

According to science, babies weighing 5 kilograms or more are much rarer, generally occurring in well under 1% of births.
