Five-Month-Old Baby Dies After House Collapse in Lumezi

A five-month-old baby has died after a house collapsed on him in Lumezi District, Eastern Province.

The incident occurred yesterday shortly after the baby’s mother returned from the Under-5 clinic at Lumezi District Hospital.

Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer Robertson Mweemba confirmed the tragedy, which happened at Kapoli Village in Chief Zumwanda’s area.

Mr. Mweemba identified the baby’s mother as 17-year-old Tryness Zimba of Lumezi Stores Compound. He explained that the mother was chatting with relatives while the infant slept on a mat when the wall of the house suddenly collapsed.

Family members managed to escape, but the baby remained trapped. He was later retrieved and rushed to the district hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Mr. Mweemba added that the baby’s body showed no physical injuries. An inquiry file has since been opened, and investigations are underway.

US air base in Bahrain reportedly destroyed - Iran state media

(BBC) Reports are emerging of an Iranian strike destroying a US air base in Bahrain.

Footage posted by the Fars news agency, affiliated with the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), appears to show a wave of rockets exploding into distant targets.

It claims the IRGC's drone and missile attack destroyed a US command and staff building air base in Bahrain's Sheikh Isa region and caused fuel tanks to explode.

The US has not yet commented on the reported attacks.

Earlier, smoke could be seen billowing from a US-run naval base in Bahrain.

The US State Department has ordered American citizens to immediately leave Bahrain, along with a dozen other countries in the Middle East.

Meanwhile the US State Department is now urging Americans in much of the Middle East to depart now via commercial means due to "serious safety risks".

The advisory applies to citizens in Bahrain, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Israel, the West Bank, Gaza, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, the United Arab Emirates and Yemen.
