Today’s Student Spotlight is featuring Claire, who beautifully (and hilariously) captures what it actually means to be a soap artisan. Because let’s be honest one minute you feel like an elite cosmetic chemist and the next, your batter has seized into something that can only be described as “rustic cement.”

From handling the humbling nature of beeswax to accidentally creating a scent that smells like a “confused fruit salad,” Claire reminds us that the best makers are the ones who know how to laugh when a batch goes spectacularly wrong.

But beyond the laugh-out-loud moments, Claire’s journey shows what happens when you shift from just following recipes to truly understanding the science of your ingredients:

“The masterclass completely changed the way I look at ingredients like clays, butters, and beeswax. Before, I used to think ingredients were just ‘things you add.’ Now I understand how they affect hardness, lather, glide, texture, and even the personality of the soap itself.”
