🇿🇲 A Clean Zambia Starts With Us.
Today, The Zambia I Want officially launches the No Trash Campaign, a national civic movement supporting Zambia’s Mindset Change Agenda.
This campaign is about more than cleaning streets. It is about changing how we think, act, and take responsibility for the spaces we share.
We believe a clean environment reflects discipline, pride, and respect for our nation. Government is playing its part — now it’s time for citizens, communities, and the private sector to step forward together.
Over the coming weeks, we will mobilize communities, schools, corporates, and institutions to take ownership of cleanliness, environmental care, and civic responsibility.
No Trash. No Excuse.
A Clean Zambia Starts With You.

Meningitis is an inflammation of the meninges, the protective membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord, typically caused by infection. It can be caused by bacteria, viruses, fungi, or parasites, and less commonly, by non-infectious conditions. Bacterial meningitis is the most serious and can be life-threatening, requiring prompt medical attention.
Causes and Transmission:
Bacterial Meningitis:
Bacteria can enter the bloodstream and travel to the brain and spinal cord, or directly invade the meninges through ear or sinus infections, skull fractures, or certain surgeries. Common bacterial culprits include Streptococcus pneumoniae, Neisseria meningitidis, and Haemophilus influenzae.
Viral Meningitis:
Viral meningitis is often caused by enteroviruses or herpes simplex viruses and is generally less severe than bacterial meningitis.
Fungal and Parasitic Meningitis:
Less common causes, but can occur in individuals with weakened immune systems.
Non-infectious causes:
Malignancy, subarachnoid hemorrhage, certain drugs and chronic inflammatory diseases can also lead to meningitis.
Mode of Transportation:
Respiratory droplets:
Bacterial and viral meningitis can spread through coughing, sneezing, and close contact.
Foodborne illness:
Listeria bacteria can cause meningitis and are often transmitted through contaminated food.
Direct contact:
In some cases, bacterial meningitis can occur through direct contact with the meninges (e.g., via skin or nasal cavity).
Incubation Period:
The incubation period for meningitis varies depending on the causative agent, but generally ranges from 2 to 10 days. For example, viral meningitis may resolve within 7 to 10 days.
Clinical Signs:
Classic symptoms: Fever, severe headache, stiff neck, nausea, vomiting, and sensitivity to light.
Other symptoms: Confusion, seizures, drowsiness, and skin rash (in some cases).
Prevention:
Vaccination:
Vaccines are available for some bacterial causes of meningitis, such as meningococcal and pn

Laptops do emit radiation, specifically electromagnetic fields (EMF) and radiofrequency (RF) radiation. When you place your laptop on your thighs, you are in close proximity to these emissions.
# # # Potential Health Effects
- Short-Term Exposure: Brief exposure to laptop radiation is generally considered safe for most people.
- Long-Term Exposure: Prolonged exposure to high levels of EMF and RF radiation can potentially lead to health issues, including skin burns, rashes, and fertility problems
# # # Sterility Concerns
While there is some evidence suggesting that excessive exposure to EMF and RF radiation can impact fertility, the risk of sterility from using a laptop on your lap is relatively low for most people.
However, it's always a good idea to take precautions:
* Use a Laptop Stand: Place your laptop on a desk or use a laptop stand to keep it at a safe distance from your body.
* Limit Usage Time: Try to limit the amount of time you spend with your laptop on your lap.

EFFECTS OF SOCIAL MEDIA ON CHILDREN'S HEAlTH
It can be overwhelming to think about all the negative ways your child may be affected by using social media.
Teens who spend more than three hours a day on social media double their risk of depression and anxiety.
Social media makes it easy to compare oneself to another,” says child psychologist Kate Eshleman, PsyD. “Most people put on social media what they want you to see. And by using social media, all of us have the ability to access endless information anytime we want to, and that can be very hard for kids.”
While experts are just beginning to understand social media’s impact on children, one study shows that children younger than 11 years old who use Instagram and Snapchat are more likely to have problematic digital behaviors like having online-only friends and visiting sites parents would disapprove of, as well as a greater chance of taking part in online harassment.
And it’s not so easy to give up or limit your child’s time on social media. According to a national survey, 33% of girls 11 to 15 years old feel addicted to social media and more than half of teens say it would be hard to give up social media. The fear of missing out.
Body image concerns
Too much time on social media apps can lead to an increase in body dissatisfaction, eating disorders and low self-esteem. While this is particularly concerning for teen girls, reports show that 46% of teens 13 to 17 years old said social media made them feel worse about their bodies.
It’s important to realize that with high-tech phones and various apps, it’s much easier to snap ‘the perfect picture,’ which is likely not a true representation of someone’s appearance.
“However, we all, and especially young people, look at these pictures and admire the beauty. This results in likely comparing oneself to an artificial image, and distress can result if we feel we don’t measure up.”

We’re all familiar with bullying — the kind that might happen on the

EFFECT OF AFLATOXIN ON HUMAN HEALTH
Aflatoxin are a family of toxins produced by certain fungi that are found on agricultural crops such as maize (corn), peanuts, cottonseed, and tree nuts.
How can you tell that a plant have aflatoxin
Gray-green or yellow-green mold growing on corn kernels in the field or in storage. Plant stress due to drought, heat or insect damage during fungus growth usually increases aflatoxin levels.
Effects Of Aflatoxin
Large doses of aflatoxins can lead to acute poisoning (aflatoxicosis) and can be life threatening, usually through damage to the liver. Aflatoxins have also been shown to be genotoxic, meaning they can damage DNA and cause cancer in animal species. There is also evidence that they can cause liver cancer in humans.
How can you prevent exposure to aflatoxin
reduce your aflatoxin exposure by buying only major commercial brands of nuts and nut butters and by discarding nuts that look moldy. reduce buying peanut and nuts from the streets and unlabeled food.
Drying seeds and commodities to the safe moisture levels (

WHAT'S YOUR PERCEPTION ON OPEN DUMPING OF WASTE
There's a significant increase in the population in towns and cities of Zambia which has impacted in the level of generation and management of waste.
alot of people are generating street waste which can be plastic's, bottles and food waste of which they are able to dispose such waste in the streets. Some have a tendance of practicing open dumping in open areas and streets especially during the night instead of registering to the private sectors involved in collection of waste.
These waste are currently causing great negative environmental impact which is the clogging of the sewer system leading to diseases such as chlorella, change in climatic condition due to the release of toxic chemicals contained in the waste, not only that but also creating a nuisance to the Zambian environment.
it's my duty, your duty and our duty✊ to take the responsibility of managing the waste we generate and be disposing it at a right disposal site.
