No sunscreen fades pigmentation on its own. Its job is to protect the progress you're making and prevent UV from making dark marks worse.

We see it everywhere, and it is a absolute powerhouse. It strengthens your skin barrier against heat and dust, reduces inflammation, regulates oil, and tackles trans-epidermal water loss (TEWL).

But we need to stop telling people that Niacinamide on its own will miraculously clear dark spots—because if you have a deeper Fitzpatrick skin type, it won't work alone. ❌🧴

Here is the honest truth from the clinic:
1️⃣ It's a Booster, Not a Solo Act: For deeper skin tones (Fitzpatrick V–VI), niacinamide alone is not enough to fade stubborn hyperpigmentation or post-inflammatory pigmentation (PIP). It works best as a booster alongside heavy-hitters like azelaic acid, tranexamic acid, vitamin C, or retinoids.
2️⃣ Skin Type Matters: While visible pigment improvement comes easier in lighter skin types (I–IV), deeper melanin-rich skin needs combination therapy and strict, daily sun protection to see real results.
3️⃣ The Savannah Shield: In our hot, dry climate, your main focus should be protecting the barrier first. Healthy skin clears faster!

Well... seeing as there are quite a few new faces here, I suppose I should re- introduce myself.

I'm Sam Blake, Clinical Esthetician, Cosmetic Formulator and founder of SkinAdore Holistic Skincare & Wellness in Harare.

I've spent years helping people fix skin they've almost given up on. Hyperpigmentation, acne, barrier damage, sensitivity... if it's frustrating you, chances are I've seen it before.

A few things about me...

• I don't believe expensive skincare automatically means good skincare.

• I will happily tell you to stop buying products you don't need—even if it means I make less money.

• I formulate products because I got tired of trying to force products designed for completely different climates and skin concerns to work for my clients.

• My consultations are probably longer than most people expect because I ask a lot of questions. Skin doesn't exist in isolation. Lifestyle, hormones, stress, medications, climate... it all matters.

I’m officially in my "f*ck perfectionism" era.

I survived the 90s body-shaming Olympics, toxic diet culture, impossible beauty standards, and the exhausting lie that my worth was somehow attached to the number on a scale, the size of my jeans, or how flawless I looked.

At 39? I'm over it!!!

These days, if I get through the day without telling someone exactly where they can go, I consider that emotional maturity. If I survive Harare traffic with my blood pressure intact, even better.

I've built businesses, started over, failed, won, cried, laughed, doubted myself, believed in myself again, and somehow kept showing up anyway.

I've learnt that I can be successful and still be figuring things out.
Strong and still need rest.
Confident and still have bad days.
Grateful and still want more.
A healer who is still healing.

Turns out, that's not failure.

That's life.

So here's to another year of showing up exactly as I am—messy, resilient, a little sarcastic, occasionally chaotic, and unapologetically authentic.
