You don’t need to turn your life upside down to lower your blood pressure. Small, consistent changes work wonders. Here are 7 proven, natural ways to bring your numbers down:

1. Cut back on salt (sodium) 🧂
Limit processed foods, canned soups, fast food. Use herbs, garlic, lemon, or vinegar for flavor. Aim for less than 1,500–2,300 mg/day.

2. Eat more potassium 🥑
Potassium helps balance sodium. Think: bananas, spinach, sweet potatoes, beans, tomatoes, avocados.

3. Move your body 30 min/day 🚶
Brisk walking, cycling, swimming, or dancing. Just 150 min/week can lower BP by 5–8 mmHg.

4. Limit alcohol 🍷
Too much alcohol raises BP. Stick to max 1 drink/day for women, 2 for men.

5. Quit smoking 🚭
Ni****ne spikes BP and damages arteries. Quitting is one of the best things for your heart.

6. Manage stress 🧘
Chronic stress keeps BP high. Try deep breathing, meditation, a hobby, or just 10 minutes of quiet time.

7. Prioritise sleep 😴
Poor sleep (less than 6 hours) is linked to high BP. Aim for 7–8 hours of quality rest.

👉 Don’t try all 7 at once. Pick ONE this week. Next week, add another. Progress, not perfection.

High blood pressure (hypertension) happens when the force of blood against your artery walls is too high for too long. It’s like leaving a garden hose on full blast for years – eventually, the hose wears out.

🔴 Why is it called the “silent killer”?
Because there are usually no warning signs. No pain, no fever, no cough. You can feel perfectly fine while your heart, brain, kidneys, and eyes are slowly being damaged.

The scary part:

Nearly half of adults have hypertension.

Many don’t know it.

Untreated, it can lead to heart attack, stroke, kidney failure, and vision loss.

The good news?
It’s incredibly easy to detect – just a simple, painless blood pressure check.
And it’s very manageable with lifestyle changes and, if needed, medication.

Know your numbers:

Normal: ~120/80 mmHg

Elevated: 120–129 / below 80

High (hypertension): 130/80 or higher (consistent)

📢 Tag a friend or family member and remind them to check their BP this week. It could save their life.
