🇨🇦 Minister Miller was asked about the concerns of international students in Canada regarding their pathway to permanent residency, their wait for the CEC draws and status challenges. He was asked if the ministry is considering creating a more direct pathway from international students to permanent residents? 🎓

The Minister responded by acknowledging international students’ concerns. 🤝 He mentioned while being an international student doesn’t guarantee permanent residence or citizenship, the government is actively working on solutions, including boosting points for skilled trades and clearer pathways to PR. Stay tuned for updates!. 🌍

#BreakingNews: Significant Changes to Canada’s International Student Program by IRCC 🚨🎓

The Minister of IRCC has announced significant changes affecting international students, their Post-Graduation Work Permit (#PGWP) eligibility, and Open Work Permit for Spouses (#SOWP).

Here’s an overview of the three key measures:

1) Two-Year Temporary Study Permit Cap (Effective January 22, 2024):
✔️IRCC will allocate a portion of study permits to each province and territory.
✔️Provinces and territories will distribute their allocation among designated learning institutions.
✔️A new requirement: As of January 22, 2024, every study permit application must include an #attestationletter from a province or territory.
✔️Provinces and territories must set up a process for issuing attestation letters by March 31, 2024.
✔️These temporary measures will be reassessed at the end of this year for 2025 applications.

2) Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) Changes (Effective September 1, 2024):
✔️Students in programs under curriculum licensing arrangements (such as public-private institutions) will no longer be eligible for PGWP.
✔️Graduates of master’s and other short graduate-level programs will be eligible for a 3-year work permit, enhancing their opportunities to gain work experience and transition to permanent residence.

3) Spousal Open Work Permit (SOWP) Adjustments:
✔️Coming soon: Open work permits will be limited to spouses of international students in master’s and doctoral programs.
✔️Spouses of international students in other study levels (e.g., undergraduate, college programs such as Graduate Certificates and Diploma Programs) will no longer be eligible for open work permits.

These changes will impact a significant number of international students, influencing their educational goals, work experience opportunities, immigration pathways, and even family reunification prospects for some. Keep an eye out for further updates and details on the implementation of these measures.
