GKSD, a subsidiary of the San Donato Group, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Kenya’s Ministry of Health for the construction of 15 new hospitals across 15 different counties, representing an investment of approximately $419 million.

The MoU was signed by Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Health, Aden Duale, and Kamel Ghribi, Chairman of GSD Healthcare, President of the GKSD Group, and Vice President of Gruppo San Donato. The signing ceremony took place at State House in Nairobi in the presence of the President of the Republic of Kenya, William Ruto.

The program provides for the construction of 13 “local” level 5 hospitals and two national referral facilities classified as Level 6, offering highly specialized and teaching functions. The initiative is part of Kenya’s efforts to achieve universal health coverage, which requires expanding hospital capacity and strengthening access to specialized healthcare services.

GKSD will contribute its expertise in healthcare engineering, as well as in the design and construction of complex healthcare infrastructures. The company will support the development of facilities designed according to principles of efficiency, innovation, and sustainability. The initiative is also part of the Mattei Plan.

“This agreement represents a significant step in GKSD’s international growth and confirms the Group’s ability to put its technical, design, and healthcare expertise at the service of large-scale infrastructure programs,” said Ghribi.
Under the MoU, GKSD and the Kenyan government will collaborate on structuring the financing of the program and subsequently implementing the planned projects.

In the heart of Najaf, where countless stories of life unfold each day, we have helped bring new life to a place of healing. Not simply a hospital, but a center of excellence and hope for an entire community.

Our ambition was never just to renovate buildings. It was to empower the people who work within them, and to help create a healthcare system worthy of those who depend upon it.

We were looking at the results that our group, Gruppo San Donato, has achieved here at Najaf Hospital. We were deeply moved because they are truly remarkable results. Regarding mortality, before we arrived, it was almost 100%. Today, it is 35%. We are moving towards 10%. This means that out of every 100 patients, today we save 75 to 80, and we are moving towards almost eliminating mortality.

Behind every treatment are dedicated hands, caring faces, and unwavering commitment. Doctors, nurses, and healthcare professionals who, every day, transform expertise into trust and make a hospital a place where people feel welcomed and cared for.

Today, Najaf has found a new heartbeat. We are proud to have played a part in helping it beat stronger than ever.
