Taranto wasn’t the highlight of my trip, but it has an interesting story. The city gave its name to the tarantula spider🕷️, which in turn inspired the fast tarantella dance💃. Legend says people danced wildly to sweat out the spider's poison. Taranto is also Italy’s main naval port and is uniquely located between two seas: the Mar Grande and the Mar Piccolo.
