Bridging the gap between hydrotherapy and learn to swim lessons for children with disabilities.

31/05/2026

Today, we recognise and celebrate the incredible role parents and caregivers play in every child’s life. Families provide love, stability, care, and protection, the foundation that helps children grow, learn, and thrive.

At Flipper Academy, we see this every day. The commitment, patience, and advocacy from parents and caregivers are at the heart of every child’s progress in our programs.

We are grateful to walk alongside so many families in their journey, supporting children to build confidence, strength, and independence in a safe and nurturing environment.

Thank you to all parents and caregivers for your ongoing dedication and care. 💙

The Flipper Academy team came together for a professional development night focused on aquatic ability assessments and evidence-informed practice.

Chelsea partnered with researcher and physiotherapist Karen Graham, who is currently working on the SPLASH project (Swimming Participation: Linking Australian Swimming & Health sectors to explore the state of practice for children with disability).

Karen provided Chelsea with standardised outcome measures around aquatic ability, and after reviewing the supporting literature and evidence, our team is now implementing the HUMPHRIES and WOTA-2 assessments within the Flipper program to help track aquatic skill progression.

As our programs continue to grow, we remain committed to improving our practice, expanding our knowledge, and providing the best possible support for the children and families we work with.

We hear why consistency and trust mattered when choosing Flipper Academy. Having already worked with Chelsea in land-based physiotherapy, it made sense to continue with someone who already understood her child’s needs, helping create a sense of familiarity and comfort.

For many children with disability, consistency is so important, and continuing care with a trusted therapist can make a big difference in their experience. 💦

When asked what she would say to other parents, she shared that Chelsea is supportive, understands her child’s needs, and works closely with children to help them progress in a safe and caring environment. 💙

Over the weekend, the Flipper Academy team swapped swimmers for lawn bowls and spent some time together outside of sessions.🎱

Creating strong connections as a team is so important to us because the better we work together, the better we can support the children and families we work with every week.

We enjoyed plenty of laughter, friendly competition, and an all-around fun day.

Practice Manager, Gina, shares the changes she’s seen as Flipper Academy has grown, from supporting a more diverse range of children and families to expanding our team and services.

One thing that stands out is the importance of creating the right environment for each child, a space where they feel supported and able to engage in the water in a way that suits them. 🌊

As our programs continue to grow, so does our commitment to providing inclusive, supportive experiences for every child and family we work with.

Smiles, laughter, high fives, and lots of splashing.💙

This is what we love most, seeing children enjoy their time in the water in a way that feels fun, supported, and right for them.

For families, these moments mean everything.

Imagine your child experiencing the same joy and excitement in the water.
