Perimenopause: your hormones are changing

It’s a shifting hormonal landscape where estrogen is no longer predictable, progesterone is gradually declining, and your nervous system is adjusting to those changes in real time.

When progesterone drops, its calming influence on the brain also reduces. This can show up as increased anxiety, irritability, restlessness, and disrupted sleep. It’s not a character change, but a neurochemical shift.

At the same time, fluctuating estrogen can influence mood regulation, cognition, and stress resilience, which is why many women notice they feel different from month to month, or even week to week.

There’s also a lesser-known layer: histamine.

Estrogen and histamine interact closely in the body. When estrogen rises or falls unpredictably, histamine activity can also increase. For some women, this contributes to symptoms like anxiety, palpitations, skin changes, headaches, or a general sense of being “on edge.”

If the body’s ability to break down histamine is already compromised, whether through gut health, nutrient status, or enzyme function; those symptoms can feel amplified.

This is why perimenopause doesn’t look the same for everyone.

Your experience is shaped by your overall internal environment, including:

* Liver detoxification capacity
* Gut microbiome balance
* Histamine load and breakdown pathways
* Cortisol rhythm and stress physiology
* Thyroid function
* Nutrient reserves

There is always a physiological reason for what you’re experiencing. And for many women, it’s not just about hormone levels — it’s about how well the whole system is adapting.

This is where individualised support matters.

Because the same symptoms can come from very different underlying patterns, and the order in which you address them can change everything.

Understanding your unique picture is the starting point.

Neuro Emotional Technique (NET) is Now Available!

NET is an evidence informed mind body approach designed to help identify and release unresolved emotional stress patterns stored within the body.

NET works on the understanding that we don’t just experience stress, we store it.

Past experiences, emotional stress and ongoing nervous system overload can create patterns within the body that may continue to influence both emotional and physical wellbeing long after the original event has passed.

NET combines principles of:

• Neuroscience
• Traditional Chinese Medicine
• Mind body awareness
• Nervous system regulation

Using gentle muscle testing and mind body techniques, NET helps connect physical symptoms and nervous system responses with unresolved emotional stress patterns. Allowing the body to safely process and release them.

There is no need to relive trauma or deeply verbalise difficult experiences.

Your body does the work, gently and at its own pace.

Ready to experience the transformative power of NET?

I truly love what I do. ✨🫶🏻

Supporting women who are carrying so much. Helping them to find space to pause and breathe.

Holding space for those who have felt unheard or dismissed. Reminding them that they and their experiences matter.

Caring for women navigating the physical and emotional shifts of midlife, hormones, stress, and change.

Sometimes healing begins simply by feeling listened to. 🤍

8 free things for Mother’s Day 🫶🏻💐

(For the blokes — this is your sign to pay attention 👀)

1. Put her in the photos. Take them without being asked.

2. Plan the whole day. Meals. Timing. Details. Let her switch her brain off for once.

3. Give her one uninterrupted hour alone. No questions. Maybe with a bath and a glass of wine.

4. Tell her 3 specific things you love about her. And not just as a mum.

5. Clean the kitchen properly. Benches. Dishes. Floors. The whole thing.

6. Organise her favourite meal. Cook it, order it — doesn’t matter. Just don’t make her decide.

7. Create a quiet space for her to relax. Soft lighting. Clean room. Peace and quiet.
#
8. End the day slowly. Sit with her. Hold her. Let her feel cared for too 🤍

Because sometimes the most meaningful things don’t cost a cent.

Take a moment for yourself. 🍵📖

In the hustle and bustle of daily life, we often forget to pause and breathe. Consider this your gentle reminder to slow down, savor the simple pleasures, and find joy in the little moments.

Whether it’s indulging in a warm cup of tea or losing yourself in a captivating book, cherish those quiet times… even if it’s late at night when everyone else is asleep, and you finally find that moment of peace. 😉

As an acupuncturist, I know the importance of a good night’s sleep and recommend being in bed by 11pm for restorative rest. But as a mum, I understand the value of enjoying those rare moments whenever they come! 🫣

How do you unwind? Share your favorite ways to slow down.
