Behind the Botanicals
Join Thalia, our Janesce herbalist, naturopath and beauty therapist, every week as she shares the stories behind our beautiful herbs and their place in the Janesce story.
Today, from the drying shed at Claret Ash Farm in the Adelaide Hills, Thalia shines a light on one of our important dried herbs: Marshmallow.
Marshmallow is a demulcent, valued for its naturally softening properties. It features in many of our tincture blends and plays an important role in supporting our Phyto Nutri-forte™ process.
Every herb has a story to tell.

There’s something special about seeing a botanical like Chamomile, carefully grown and incorporated into our skincare. Soft, gentle and soothing, Chamomile has long been cherished as a botanical for sensitive and delicate skin 🌼
We love Chamomile in the Honey + Bloom Cleansing Milk, where it forms part of Tincture Blend 8, alongside Rose, Lavender and Marshmallow. Combined with nourishing Honey, these botanicals gently cleanse and condition the skin without leaving it feeling stripped or tight.
It makes us especially proud to see our Honey + Bloom Cleansing Milk recognised with Gold in the 2026 Clean + Conscious Awards for Australia and New Zealand ✨
“Wow. I think I’ve finally found it – the perfect cleanser for my dry skin.”

Clean + Conscious
A creamy evening cleanse that turns an everyday step into a quiet moment of comfort and care.
There’s so much that happens behind the scenes before our herbs become Janesce skincare.
Join Simon, our Farm Manager and Thalia, our herbalist, beauty therapy trainer and naturopath, inside the drying shed at Claret Ash Farm in the Adelaide Hills as they talk us through how we prepare our herbs for the next stage of their journey.
From the traditional drying racks to our drying machine, Simon shares how we carefully dry herbs such as Immortelle and Marshmallow, ready for the slow process that follows.
Once dried, the herbs move into our Phyto Nutri-forte™ process, which is how we create the botanical tinctures that go into the skincare we love and use every day.
We’re so proud to share that three Janesce favourites have been recognised in the prestigious Clean + Conscious Awards 2026 for Australia and New Zealand, achieving Gold and Silver across
multiple categories.
Our Honey + Bloom Cleansing Milk was awarded Gold, our Silken Eye Cream Silver and our Desert Bloom Lotion achieved Silver in the Over 40s Skincare category, along with an Editor’s Choice award.
This recognition means so much to us. The Clean + Conscious Awards look beyond performance, independently assessing products across ingredients, sustainability, ethical practices and social impact before they are reviewed by a Panel of Experts.
We’re incredibly grateful to the Clean + Conscious Awards and their wonderful panel of experts and to our wonderful supportive community.
A moment at Claret Ash Farm with Jan, the founder of Janesce and Thalia, our Janesce herbalist, naturopath and beauty therapist, standing beside the bright golden blooms of Calendula, carefully dried in our drying shed.
As Jan explains, there is something very special about the soil that helps these beautiful flowers develop such a vibrant colour. It’s a reminder that what happens beneath the surface is just as important as what we see above it.
Healthy soil is at the heart of how we grow our herbs and handmake our skincare here at Claret Ash Farm 🌼

It may not always steal the spotlight, but Marshmallow is an important hero herb grown at Claret Ash Farm in the Adelaide Hills.
Harvested and slowly dried, Marshmallow is one of our treasured botanicals. Before it becomes part of our herbal tinctures, each leaf is carefully dried to help preserve its natural qualities, as seen here in our drying shed.
What makes Marshmallow so special is its naturally high content of plant mucilage, a gel-like substance that helps attract moisture to the skin's surface, supporting skin softness, hydration and comfort. Traditionally valued for its soothing properties, Marshmallow has long been used in skincare for dry, delicate skin and for its gentle toning qualities.
Marshmallow forms the foundation of many of our herbal tinctures, which is why you'll find it throughout our Janesce collections and in products like our Softening Wonder Cream, Silken Rose Cream and Silken Eye Cream.
It's one of the many botanicals that reflects our belief that healthy skin begins with nature 💚
