Simon Kerle’s story is one of transformation — from elite professional athlete to one of Australia’s most respected yoga educators and studio owners. A professional basketball player for 18 years, Simon’s career took him around the world — including a scholarship to the University of Nebraska and a professional contract in Sicily, Italy, where he played for Messina. Known for his precision, leadership, and relentless work ethic, Simon competed at the highest levels of the game, representing teams like the Brisbane Bullets and working alongside world-class athletes across the NBL, Australian Rugby League, Brisbane Broncos, Brisbane Lions, English Cricket Team, Brisbane Heat Women’s Team, and even Australian Ballet dancers. That realisation led him to yoga — and ultimately to founding Raw Power Yoga, Brisbane’s #1 yoga studio and home to Queensland’s most successful Yoga Teacher Training program. Over the past decade, Simon has helped thousands of students transform their lives through yoga — from professional athletes and defence force personnel to everyday people seeking clarity, connection, and change. His signature 250-Hour Yoga Teacher Training is a deep, life-changing journey — not just for those who want to teach yoga, but for anyone seeking purpose, confidence, and personal growth. It covers anatomy, philosophy, history, sequencing, alignment, yoga for trauma, personal development, and finding your authentic voice. At Raw Power Yoga, the results speak for themselves:
Over 65% of graduates go on to teach yoga (compared to less than 5% industry-wide)
The program has sold out 10 years in a row
The studio has been voted Brisbane’s Best Yoga Studio
Simon and his team even train members of the Australian Defence Force to become certified yoga teachers
Students describe the experience as the moment they stopped just existing — and started truly living. They gain more than a qualification; they gain clarity, confidence, and a community that lasts a lifetime.
“Yoga gave me more than strength — it gave me peace, purpose, and freedom. Now, it’s my mission to share that with others.” — Simon Kerle
If you’re craving purpose, connection, and growth, or if you’re ready to create a life doing what you love, this is your moment. The shared energy of its members fosters connection and belonging, creating a supportive environment where individuals can embrace their potential, free from judgment or comparison. Whether you’re here to strengthen your body, calm your mind, or explore the deeper philosophies of yoga, this studio delivers an experience that is nothing short of transformative. But Simon’s vision doesn’t stop with professional athletes. He is also the founder of Yoga Bears Kids Yoga, now the largest kids’ yoga program in Australia, operating in over 120 early learning centres nationwide. Playful, creative, and grounded in emotional regulation, Yoga Bears has been featured on Channel 7’s House of Wellness and is helping raise the next generation of calm, confident, and connected children. Your brain is only about 2% of your total body weight.
Yet at rest it uses roughly 20% of your body’s oxygen and receives around 15–20% of your cardiac output.
Read that again.
A tiny percentage of your body has an enormous demand for oxygen, blood flow and energy.
And this is where breathing becomes important.
When you breathe excessively or too fast, you can blow off too much CO₂.
Why does that matter?
CO₂ helps regulate the diameter of the blood vessels supplying your brain. As CO₂ falls, those vessels constrict and cerebral blood flow can decrease.
Research shows cerebral blood flow can change by roughly 2–4% for every 1 mmHg change in arterial CO₂ within the normal responsive range.
So breathing isn’t simply about getting more oxygen in.
More breathing does not automatically mean more oxygen reaches your brain.
Your breathing pattern can influence:
• Blood flow to the brain
• Focus and concentration
• Mental clarity
• Stress and arousal
• Your ability to stay present
• How effectively you switch from “on” to “off”
This is why we practise slower, lighter, more controlled breathing.
Not to breathe MORE.
To breathe BETTER.
Slow down the breath.
Bring your attention back to it.
Reduce the noise.
Get present.
Focus. Clarity. Control.
Your breath is happening approximately 20,000 times a day.
It makes sense to learn how to use it.

Women don’t breathe exactly the same way every day.
Hormones, exercise intensity and pregnancy can all change how the breathing system works.
Across a woman’s cycle, hormonal shifts can influence ventilation and breathing patterns.
During hard exercise, women can experience a greater oxygen cost from breathing, which means the respiratory muscles may require more oxygen when the body is already working hard.
Pregnancy changes things again. As the baby grows, the diaphragm has less room to move and the body’s drive to breathe increases.
These changes matter.
Understanding them can help women make smarter choices around breathing, movement, training and recovery.
At Raw Power Yoga, we combine yoga, movement and breathing to help people better understand and work with their body.
Swipe through the carousel to learn some of the key factors that can affect how women breathe.

Your breath can change what your heart is doing in real time.
That is not hype. It is physiology.
When you are under pressure, your breathing often speeds up and rises into your chest. When you settle, it slows down.
That link runs both ways.
And the vagus nerve is one of the main reasons why.
When you breathe out, vagal signals to your heart increase. When you breathe in, they ease off. Slow, gentle nasal breathing gives your heart more time under that calming influence, and you can often see the effect on an HRV monitor within minutes.
In our new guide, Simon Kerle explains what the vagus nerve actually does, what the research shows and what it doesn’t, plus a simple breathing exercise you can practise from your own baseline.
Simon is an Advanced Oxygen Advantage Instructor and founder of Vincere Protocol, a performance breathing system built around improving breathing mechanics, regulation and performance.

STRONG ABS WON’T SAVE A WEAK FOUNDATION.
Most people chase longer planks, heavier loads and harder progressions—then wonder why the same pain and injuries keep returning.
The missing piece may sit underneath it all: your diaphragm.
Your diaphragm isn’t only a breathing muscle. It helps create the internal pressure your body needs to stabilise the spine and trunk.
When it isn’t working effectively, larger muscles in the neck, shoulders and lower back often compensate. Movement becomes less efficient, performance drops and the risk of recurring problems can increase.
HOW DO YOU TRAIN IT?
Nasal breathing creates natural resistance during each inhale, encouraging the diaphragm to work instead of relying on the neck and shoulders.
Controlled breath holds increase the challenge further, helping improve respiratory control and your ability to remain stable under pressure.
Strong movement starts with strong breathing.
At Raw Power Yoga, we teach breathing and movement patterns that help you build a stronger, more stable and resilient body.
Swipe to discover the five core-training myths keeping people stuck.

WOMEN DON’T BREATHE THE SAME WAY THROUGH EVERY STAGE OF LIFE — AND HORMONES CAN CHANGE FAR MORE THAN MOST PEOPLE REALISE.
Across the menstrual cycle, pregnancy and menopause, hormonal shifts can directly affect how the respiratory system functions.
That can influence breathing rate, breathing effort, CO₂ sensitivity, airflow, recovery and even how breathless you feel.
Here’s what the science tells us:
• Progesterone can increase ventilation, which may push some women toward overbreathing
• Breathing responses to oxygen and CO₂ can change across different phases of the menstrual cycle
• During pregnancy, the drive to breathe increases and the respiratory system adapts significantly
• Hormonal changes can influence asthma symptoms, airflow and gas exchange
• Women generally have smaller conducting airways relative to lung size, which can increase the work of breathing as ventilation rises
• Menopause brings another major hormonal shift that can affect breathing patterns, sleep, recovery, stress and overall wellbeing
This matters because breathing is not just about your lungs.
It influences how calm you feel.
How well you recover.
How you handle stress.
How you sleep.
How you move.
And how efficiently your body functions.
At Raw Power Yoga, breathwork is not an afterthought.
We teach people how to understand and train their breathing so they can move better, recover better and feel more in control of their body.
Different stages.
Different demands.
Same goal.
BREATHE BETTER. LIVE BETTER.
