Ninuku painters past and present speak across generations in the current exhibition Quintessence at , in Brussels, Belgium. Hosted by our friend Bertrand Estrangin, who visited the studio in July.

Ngayuku Ngura (My Place) In partnership with @ninuku_arts Meet the artist at the opening of his solo exhibition Saturday May 6 OPENING EVENT: Saturday May 6 2.30-4 pm  Everywhen Artspace 39 Cook St Flinders Dedicated artist Samuel Miller was born in 1966 at Ernabella, SA. Miller grew up in the remote communities of Amata and Pipalyatjara and later settled at Kalka, near the WA/SA/NT border. Here, his community's art centre Ninuku Arts was established by his mother and other Anangu artists in 2006.  Samuel paints almost daily at Ninuku depicting the traditional iconography of camps, sacred rock holes, creeks, and hills, immersed in the laws, beliefs, creation stories and knowledge of place, its plants, animals, and people (Tjukurpa) in paintings that shimmer with colour and minimalist design. Ninuku Arts manager eila vinwynn describes his current work as as an "explosion of his own energetic, and somewhat compulsive drive" in which he makes extensive use of vibrant colours, spread out around him while he paints. These, she says, are drawn largely from the colours of the once prevalent wildflowers of his country in the times before the invasive buffel grass dominated his lands. Samuel Miller's works have featured in more than 40 group exhibitions in galleries that represent Ninuku Arts around Australia and internationally since 2006. His work is in the collections of the Art Gallery of South Australia and Artbank and he has held two solo exhibitions in Luxembourg and Darwin. We are thrilled that Samuel and his art centre manager eila vinwynn from Ninuku Arts are making the long trek from the far reaches of the Pitjantjatjara lands to join us at the opening of Samuel's first East Coast solo exhibition.

NGURRARA CANVAS UPDATE: Last week on Wednesday the Ngurrara Canvas was successfully transported from Fitzroy Crossing to the KLC offices in Broome. It was a smooth operation with a great crew on the ground at Karrayili - thank you to the team, who came together with very little notice! In Broome the canvas was placed across tables in the KLC conference rooms to allow air to circulate over the work and to check its condition. It seems that the quick thinking of everyone in Fitzroy has saved the canvas from any lasting water damage. It was managed very well with regular checks done by Amber and others. Over the weekend the canvas has been laid out on the floor so it can rest over the weekend. Today, work will begin to prepare the canvas for storage in Broome.
