I didn’t realise I had brain fog, until it lifted.
I thought I was lazy. For someone who had always been so incredibly active, why could I not get up to exercise? I felt sluggish and weighed down.
My complex medical background meant I was always destined for early perimenopause but it wasn’t until I started further studies that it hit home.
Reading through the symptoms made me stop and think, could this be me?
Back pain - never experienced in my life due to my active lifestyle, had all of a sudden started creeping in, even after resting in bed all night.
My skin - developed perioral dermatitis, never had it before
Muscle and joint aches - again something I’d never really experienced, even after many years of playing competitive Basketball.
Sleep - no one and nothing gets to interrupt my sleep until …. Perimenopause. Yes I have a toddler and we occasionally have some rough nights sleep but generally he’s great. The nights I’m talking about are lying in bed EXHAUSTED yet cannot get off to sleep. And when I do happen to nod off, would wake up several times during the night, racing mind, can’t settle. Trying all the techniques and yet this “tired but wired” feeling remains. Then comes morning and it feels like there was no rest at all.
The weight gain - I was doing all the right things, I had all the knowledge. Hit those protein goals, walk the steps, eat the good fats. And yet gaining 4kgs? How disheartening.
The irritability - Most days I struggled to hear my toddler having a tantrum. I mean viscerally it cut me deep that I had to leave the room. Throw in a barking dog and I completely lost it.
The anxiety - my god the anxiety! For someone who has never been an anxious person, this was a whole body feeling that I could not settle. No matter the meditation, deep breathing. This was in every nerve of my body. The heart palpitations, to the point I ended up in the emergency department with tachycardia… to be told it was anxiety (despite me knowing this feeling returned every 3-4 weeks, hello hormones!)
This is my personal story of hormonal changes. So you know when you walk though my door and you’re telling me your story, I totally get it

With new card processing fees coming into play start of October we want to assure you, you will not be impacted by the change.
At Eluminate we already absorb most of the card processing fees and from start of October, we will fully absorb them all, without passing the charge onto our wonderful customers. And added bonus - you don't pay for scripting fees because Ella is a registered Nurse Practitioner who is authorised to do all her own prescribing.
Whilst we say with confidence there will be no price rises for the remainder of 2026, this may need to be reviewed in 2027 with rising costs of business.
As always, a sincere thanks to all our incredible patients for their support during any times of change with business.

Your skin changes during perimeopause and that means a different approach to skincare may be required.
If skin feels dry and itchy from declining estrogen levels, we recommend barrier repair skincare and moisture nourishing such as those from the aspect platinum range.

Alcohol use in perimenopause may increase for many women.
At Eluminate we ask about and encourage you to discuss your alcohol use, taking comfort knowing that you won’t be judged.
Did you know Ella was actually an Alcohol and Other Drug Nurse for her first 10 years of her career?! So when we ask about your substance use it comes from a place of care and an opportunity to help you reach your goals whether that is reduction or cessation.
Whilst we prescribe hormone therapy in our consultations, we also look at the greater picture of what’s happening in your life.
So if it’s one nightly w**e most nights, consider a protein hot chocolate with raw cacao, honey and cinnamon where possible. If it’s a few more alcoholic drinks than that, please seek professional help before you make any drastic changes to ensure it is done safely and appropriately.
