Pigmentation isn’t simply something that sits on the surface of your skin. Melanin is produced by specialised cells called melanocytes, and changes in pigment can be influenced by UV exposure, hormones, inflammation and the way your skin responds to these triggers. This is why treating pigmentation isn’t always as simple as choosing a laser and getting started.

The type of pigmentation, how deep it sits within the skin, your skin type and your history all matter when determining whether laser is appropriate. When suitable, laser can use specific wavelengths of energy to target pigment with precision. But more energy doesn’t necessarily mean better results.

In pigmentation treatment, the aim is to create the right response while minimising unnecessary inflammation, which can sometimes contribute to further pigmentation. If pigmentation is something you’d like to address, we recommend starting with a consultation so your practitioner can assess your skin and talk you through the most appropriate options for you
