Dear SAHBA Community,

The beauty sector was in confusion yesterday when SA Health and SAPOL mandated that service providers had to wear masks, as well as their clients. This would greatly limit the number of services that beauty salons could provide.

SAHBA was able to advocate to various Government authorities yesterday for more clarity on this issue. And further to last night’s post, SAPOL has sent us, via the Small Business Commissioner, the following ….

“The direction requires a mask to be worn for personal care services, and it also requires a mask to be worn in a shared indoor public place. However, an amendment has been made to make it abundantly clear a mask can be removed by a client / patient when necessary for the provision of the personal care or health care service. Please note however, the mask may only be removed for the time taken to perform the specific service, e.g. lip waxing. Naturally throughout this time the provider of the service is wearing a mask.”

We hope this clears up any confusion that may still be out in the industry.
