It’s something so many of us have been taught, almost the way of the world. Work more hours. Make more money. Keep pushing. Build the business. Say yes to everything… and one day you’ll get to enjoy it.

And don’t get me wrong, SO many people have built incredible success doing exactly that, and I genuinely applaud them. 👏🏼

But I’ve realised… it’s just not for me.

I don’t want to wait until “one day” to enjoy the life I’m working so hard to create.

Rohan and I have learnt this together over the years. We’re both big believers that there will always be another financial goal to reach, another box to tick or another reason to wait for the “perfect” time. But we don’t want to keep putting off the things we want to experience, build or create until everything feels perfectly lined up

We do it anyway.. We make a plan. We chip away at it. We work hard (through planned seasons, not all the time). We take a few calculated risks. And most importantly, we back ourselves HARD.

And we don’t want to spend our lives waiting for some magical point where we finally feel like we’ve “made it.”

I feel the same about work.

I believe in finding the middle ground. Working smarter, not always harder. Figuring out the hours you actually want to work, what you need to earn in those hours, and building your business around the life you want, not building your life around your business.

Success to me isn’t having the biggest business or the biggest bank account.

It’s having enough.
Doing work I genuinely love.
Being there for our family.
Doing the things we want to do while we’re young enough to enjoy them.
And backing ourselves that we’ll figure the rest out along the way. 🤍

Work hard, absolutely. But don’t forget to live while you’re building it and remember the most priceless thing in the world cannot be bought… time 🫶

I was lucky enough to have an employer who taught me so much more than just hair. I learnt the business side too, and looking back, I realise how valuable that was. Not everyone gets that opportunity.

Sometimes I get asked what the future of My Stylist Studio looks like.

The truth is, I don’t really think about it in terms of numbers, chairs or “success.”

I think about culture.

I think about creating a space where people feel comfortable being themselves. Where kindness comes naturally, support is the norm, and collaboration is valued over competition.

A place where clients feel seen, and where hairdressers can build careers that fit their lives.

I know it won’t happen overnight, and that’s okay. The best things are built slowly.

This little salon has already taught me so much, and I’m excited to see where this vision takes us. 🤍

Every now and then I stop and think about just how many of you have been part of this journey.

Some of you sat in my chair when I was a nervous apprentice.
Some followed me through different chapters.
Some have watched My Stylist Studio grow from an idea into what it is today.

You’ve celebrated milestones with me, watched my boys grow up, shared your own stories, and somehow, over the years, many of you have become so much more than clients.

You became friends.

Thank you for trusting me, recommending me, cheering me on, and continuing to choose me.

I don’t think you’ll ever truly know how much that means.

To my OGs… thank you for sticking around while I learnt, grew, and found my confidence (and for loving me even though I’m still far from polished 😅).

This little studio exists because of people like you.
